In 1948 she began work as the principal designer of a company her husband created that year, called Junior Sophisticates.[5] She later divorced him, and in 1963 married Matthew Rubenstein.[5] In 1967 she patented a girdle designed for the miniskirt.[5] Then in 1968 she and her husband Matthew Rubenstein founded Anne Klein & Company.[5] That company began as a sportswear house, but later expanded to include other items, and in 1973 went international.[8]
She also created what was later known as the "Junior Miss" clothing category.[5]
