Whitney is a 2018 documentary film about the singer Whitney Houston, directed by Kevin Macdonald. It was screened out of competition at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.[1][2] The film is scheduled to be released on July 6, 2018, by Roadside Attractions and Miramax.[3][4]

Plot

The documentary features Whitney as an intimate, unflinching portrait of Houston, and her family that probes beyond familiar tabloid headlines and sheds new light on the trajectory of Houston’s life.[5][6] Using never-before-seen archival footage,[7][8] exclusive demo recordings, rare performances, audio archives and original interviews with the people who knew her best.[9][10][11]

Reception

On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 84%, based on 19 reviews, and an average rating of 7.2/10.[12] On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 68 out of 100, based on 7 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[13]
