Yiannakis Theophani "John" Christodoulou (born May 1965) is a Cyprus-born British billionaire property developer, the owner of Yianis Group, a privately owned company with a portfolio of residential, hotel, retail and leisure properties in the UK and Europe.[2]

Known as an active philanthropist, through his Charity; Yianis Christodoulou Foundation[3]

Early life

Christodoulou was born in May 1965,[4] in Nicosia, Cyprus.[5]

Christodoulou came to London as a boy in 1974, as his family fled the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

Career

He started with a studio flat, and now owns extensive property in the London Docklands through his Yianis Group.[6]

Christodoulou owns 100% of Yianis Group, which owns the London hotels Marriott West India Quay and the Canary Riverside Plaza (formerly Four Seasons Canary Wharf).[7] He owns Wool House in London.[7]

He owns the Beetham Tower in Manchester; the lower 22 of its 47 floors are a Hilton Hotel.[8]

He owns the Yianis Christodoulou Foundation, which supports and empowers undeserved children and their families in the UK and abroad.[9]

As of April 2015, he has a £1.1 billion net worth, according to the Sunday Times Rich List.[1]

Described as a "controversial" freeholder, in October 2016 Christodoulou lost the management rights to one of his buildings in a hearing attended by 40 of the leaseholders in the building. In the same month, the court appointed management agents won an injunction against him granting his companies to "co-operate with the hand over". Labour MP for Poplar and Limehouse, Jim Fitzpatrick, described his and his solicitors actions as 'little short of harassment' of the leaseholders in a series of legal actions".[10][11]

Personal life

Christodoulou lives in Monaco and has three children.[12] He has a $50 million 74m yacht, Zeus, previously owned by Aidan Barclay.[13]
