Melina was born on October 2, 1989[3] in California, USA. In 2010, she married Shane Datugan, whom she met in high school. On January 10, 2012 Melina found out she was pregnant and gave birth to her first biological son, Luca Gabriel Datugan on August 31, 2012.[4] In 2015, Melina, Shane and Luca moved from the United States of America to Japan and moved back to San Diego, USA the following year.

Subsequently, Shane and Melina was sponsored by the Military Homefront Navy Housing and moved to Japan[5]. On October 23, 2016, Shane finished his service at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Okinawa, Japan and his family decided to moved back to San Diego, USA.
Adoption
Following Melina's first pregnancy, she struggled with secondary infertility and sought out treatment options such as fertility drugs and intrauterine insemination (IUI) but was unsuccessful. As a result, Melina and Shane decided to adopt a child from South Korea. On April 3, 2018, Melina and Shane were officially approved and a final adoption order was issued by the court. Following this approval, Melina, Shane and Luca travelled to Seoul, South Korea to meet their son, DongYoon. They later changed his official first name to Julian and kept his Korean name as his middle name. Julian DongYoon Datugan was born on July 8, 2016.

Infertility Journey
Melina and Shane Datugan have always been open about their journey and struggle with secondary infertility. Since the birth of Luca, they have not been able to get pregnant even with the help of specialists. Melina revealed that she is starting intrauterine insemination (IUI) treatments again for the third time on March 1, 2019. She has also gone through in vitro fertilization (IVF) with no results. She currently is struggling to conceive and has mentioned her hopes of another child in many of her videos.
Religion
Melina and Shane Datugan are devout catholics. They frequently mention in their vlogs that they believe God had called for them to adopt their second child. Many of their Youtube videos incorporate religious sayings and montages of their bedtime prayers.
