Amy Roloff (née Knight) – (born September 17, 1964, in Michigan) is an American actor, coach, parent, teacher, and philanthropist. She is best known for her reality television role on TLC's Little People, Big World.[1] The show featured the daily life of the Roloff family, depicting a day-in-the-life of parents with dwarfism (Amy's husband at the time, Matt, also has dwarfism). Three of the Roloff's children are of average height and one of their four children, Zachary has dwarfism. [2]

Education

Amy graduated from Central Michigan University with a business degree.[3]Amy attended Franklin High School (located in Livonia, Michigan).[4]

Early Life

Amy's type of dwarfism is achondroplasia.[5] Achondroplasia is an autosomal dominant genetic disorder with 80% of cases identified as a sporadic mutation. Amy's was born as Amy Jo Knight. Her parents are Gordon[6] and Patricia Knight and she passed away in 2019 at age 86. [7][8] Amy's parents are both average height. [6] Amy's sister Cyndi passed away in 2015.[9] Amy has two additional siblings named Katherine and Roger. [10] Her father Gordon worked for Ford. [3]

Family

The Roloff family includes Matt, Amy, also a little person with achondroplasia, and four children: fraternal twins Jeremy and Zachary (born 1990), Molly (born 1993), and Jacob (born 1997). Zach, like his mother, has achondroplasia, while the other three children are average height. Matt and Amy met at a Little People of America convention in 1987. The couple were engaged quickly and were married on September 12, 1987. They had been married for 27 years when in March 2014, the couple announced that they had separated.[11][12] On June 5, 2015 the couple announced they would be divorcing.[13] Their divorce was finalized in May 2016.[14]

On September 19th, 2019 Amy got engaged to then boyfriend Chris Marek.[15][16] They married later the same year. [17]

Farm

Amy and Matt had a 100 acre farm in the Helvetia area of Oregon.[18] During the divorce, Matt bought the farm back from Amy and she purchased a new home in Oregon.[19]

Career

Film

Amy and her family began filming Little People, Big World in 2006. Amy has also been featured on The View, Jay Leno,[20] Oprah,[21] Good Morning America, Celebrity Buzz, Celebrity Chopped,[22] and the Rachel Ray Show.[23]

Books

Her first book, published in 2006, is called "Short and Simply Family Recipes."[24] Amy is also the author of the auto-biography "A Little Me" and "Little People Big Values."[25][3]

Amy has an online baking business called Amy Roloff's Little Kitchen.[26] After customers order online, Amy makes the dishes and they subsequently get shipped out.[27] In 2017, the bakery where Amy had been making the baked goods had to be shut down due to a rat infestation.[28]

Charity Work

In 2009 Amy founded the Amy Roloff Charity Foundation[29] and she makes use of her celebrity by benefiting the needs of kids, at-risk youths, and disability groups. Amy has also given back to the Dwarf Athletic Association of America, helped fund an organization for foster care parents and the kids they have adopted, and supported low-income senior housing and a homeless shelter focusing on keeping family units together.[30]

Motivational Speaking

Amy Roloff also works as a motivational speaker.[31] Amy was the keynote speaker at Adrian College's Dr. James Borland Convocational Series in 2019,[3] at Lakes Health Conference in 2010,[32] at Empowering Women in Business Conference (EWIB) in 2015,[33] at Women's Power Lunch, and among other events.[34] Amy is a part of the Get Motivated business seminar speaking series.[35][36]

The Roloff's own a pumpkin salsa company called Roloff Farms Salsa.[37]
