[edit]

Karr was born on the 2 January 1995 in Kandy, Sri Lanka. He was educated at Dharmaraja College, Kandy where he engaged in sports from a young age, competing in cricket and sprinting for his school team. In high school he started excelling in academics, placing 20th overall in the country at the GCE Advanced Level examination in the mathematics stream. After graduating from school in 2013, he competed in international physics competitions for high school students, eventually receiving silver medals at both the International Physics Olympiad and the Asian Physics Olympiad, in 2014.

Karr opted to enroll at the University of Peradeniya in his hometown. During this time, he interned at Nokia Bell Labs and eventually graduated in 2019 at the top of his class with a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering. He subsequently enrolled for his PhD at University of California, Los Angeles, but dropped-out in 2021 with a master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. During his time at UCLA, he interned at Qualcomm.
