I was told by an old BR hand 30 years ago that the name was properly Thornton's Field, because it was originally a field owned by a man named Thornton, who sold it to the railway.[[User:Thorsson64|Thorsson64]] ([[User talk:Thorsson64|talk]]) 16:16, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
