Faisal Farooqui is an Indian activist, writer and business executive.[1][2] He is an advocate of net neutrality and time zone reforms in India.[3][4] He is also the CEO & founder of MouthShut.com [5]

He is also a member of a start angels network, Lead Angels.[6]

Early life and education

Farooqui was born in Mumbai, India. He was educated at the St. Stanislaus High School in Bandra, Mumbai.[7] For higher studies, he moved to the United States where he received his bachelor's degree from the Binghamton University in Information Systems and Finance.[8]

Career

After graduation, he started working at American Management Systems as a telecommunication consultant.[7]

In 2000, he left the United States and moved to India to establish MouthShut.com.[7][9] He is known for introducing web 2.0 in India.[10]

In 2012, Farooqui and Shreya Singhal challenged the inclusion of Section 66A in the IT Act[11], which was later scrapped by the Supreme Court of India in a lawsuit known as Shreya Singhal v. Union of India.[12][13]

He is also known for popularizing the concept of advertising on rickshaws for marketing purposes.[14][15]

Recently, he became spokesperson for Indian actor, Dilip Kumar, because of their long-standing family relationship.[16][17]


Net Neutrality

Faisal Farooqui is an advocate of an unrestricted internet. He had discussed why net neutrality is vital and the political relevance of Indian web users:[18]
