The Brothers Martin

The Brothers Martin is an indie rock band from Riverside, California consisting of brothers Ronnie and Jason Martin. [1] Musically, it incorporates elements of both Joy Electric and Starflyer 59 (Ronnie and Jason's primary music projects, respectively): electropop and shoegazing [2], while modern rock and 80's New Wave are also a central influence.

Dance House Children

In the early 90's, Dance House Children was Ronnie and Jason's musical group that would become the precursor to The Brothers Martin. At one point, Ronnie described its music as trendy, club-oriented rave music. [3] The group was signed to the Blonde Vinyl label and released two albums, Songs & Stories (1991) and Jesus (1992). Jesus was released by Millenium Eight Records for a limited time.

The band was originally named "Love Children," but Michael Knott didn't like the name and suggested "Dance House Jesus" instead. [4] The brothers ended up combining both names, while the leftover Jesus became the name of their sophomore effort. Like in those by The Brothers Martin, Dance House Children songs were composed by both Ronnie and Jason, while vocals were performed individually, as opposed to in duets. Some fans are disappointed by the lack of collaborative vocals.

Ronnie later released Rainbow Rider: Beautiful Dazzling Music No. 1, which was created with friends. Many fans mistake "Rainbow Rider" as a separate band or music project. It foreshadowed the synthpop slant that would be dominant in Joy Electric, while retaining the "techno" elements of previous albums. His sister Amy is often mistaken as a major contributor to Rainbow Rider, though she only appeared in the album's cover art. (One source [5] claims that she played Moog Prodigy for the album.)
