Katie Grimes (born January 8, 2006) is an American swimmer.

Early life

Grimes spent her early childhood in Las Vegas, and began her career swimming for the Sandpipers competitive team in Nevada.[1]

2020 Olympics

She qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games in the 800m freestyle, placing second at the US Olympic Trials behind Katie Ledecky.[2] After the race, Ledecky commented that Grimes was more than the "future" of distance swimming in the US, and said to her, "Heck yeah I mean you're the now. You're the present."[3]

Ledecky gave Grimes the nickname of "Katie squared" after they became teammates. When she arrived in Tokyo, she was the youngest athlete on the 2020 American Olympic team. Grimes placed second overall after the heats of the 800m, with a time of 8:17.05 - less than a second and a half behind first place swimmer Ledecky.[4] In the finals, Grimes finished fourth with a time of 8:19.38.[5]
