Jade Cargill (born June 3, 1992) is an American professional wrestler signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW), where she is the current AEW TBS Champion in her first reign.
Early life
Cargill was born in Gifford, Florida[5] She attended Sebastian River High School and Vero Beach High School, helping her teams to two basketball district championships. Cargill is a Jacksonville University graduate with a social science degree, where she played basketball, and was named to Atlantic Sun Preseason First Team in her senior year.[6] She also has a certified master's in child psychology.[7]
Professional wrestling career
Early career
In April 2019, Cargill attended a tryout at the WWE Performance Center.[8] Subsequently, she began training at A. R. Fox's WWA4 Academy.[9] Taking advice from Mark Henry, who Cargill described as her "mentor," she went to train at Heath Miller and Richard Borger's Face 2 Face Wrestling School.[10][11][12] She then trained at Nightmare Factory under Q. T. Marshall and Dustin Rhodes. Sonjay Dutt and Bryan Danielson started coaching her when they arrived in AEW in 2021, at the request of AEW founder and owner Tony Khan.[11][12][13]
All Elite Wrestling
Signing and debut (2020–2021)
Cargill made her professional wrestling debut with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) on the November 11, 2020, episode of Dynamite, interrupting Cody Rhodes, and teasing the arrival of Shaquille O'Neal.[14][15] The next day, AEW President and CEO Tony Khan announced that Cargill had signed a multi-year contract with AEW.[16][17][18] She would work with Cody Rhodes and his wife Brandi,[19] leading to a match between the four. However, Brandi was replaced by Red Velvet. On the March 3, 2021 episode of Dynamite, Cargill and O'Neal defeated Cody and Velvet, marking the first match of Cargill's wrestling career.[4][20] On the March 17 episode of Dynamite, Cargill wrestled in her first singles match, defeating Dani Jordyn.[21] Despite Matt Hardy offering his managerial services to Cargill, he was shunned in favor of Mark Sterling, which was announced on the May 28 episode of Dynamite.[22]
TBS Champion (2021–present)
From November 2021 to January 2022, Cargill participated in the AEW TBS Championship tournament, where she defeated Red Velvet,[23] Thunder Rosa in the semi finals[24] and Ruby Soho in the finals to become the inaugural AEW TBS Champion.[25] She would retain the title against Anna Jay and Julia Hart on episodes of Rampage on January 21 and 28 respectively.[26][27] On the February 9 episode of Dynamite, Cargill successfully defended her title against A. Q. A., in the latter's debut match for AEW.[28] On March 6, at Revolution, Cargill successfully defended her title against Tay Conti.[29] On the April 13 episode of Dynamite, Cargill formed The Baddies stable which includes her, Kiera Hogan and Red Velvet.[30] On the April 22 edition of Rampage, Cargill successfully defended her title against Marina Shafir to increase her undefeated streak to 30–0.[31] On May 29, at Double or Nothing, Cargill once again successfully defended her title against Jay.[32] At the event, Stokely Hathaway became her new manager.[33] On June 17, at Road Rager, Cargill successfully defended her championship against Willow Nightingale.[34]
Personal life
Cargill is of Jamaican descent.[35] She has a daughter named Bailey Quinn with her partner, former Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips.[36][37] Cargill has credited late female wrestler Chyna and X-Men character Storm as her inspirations.[13]
