"Alternators are no longer used in electric cars; they make electricity with a regenerative braking mechanism."

I don't really feel like regenerative braking is an analogue to alternators. Electric cars don't need to generate electricity in the same way that internal combustion vehicles do. Sure, regenerative braking is a feature of electric cars that generates electricity from kinetic energy, but it isn't integral to the functionality of the car since electric cars power their auxiliary systems with the same battery that runs the motor.
