please check out Reliable sources and Referencing for beginners. especially the former. I know it's not a short read, but reliable sources form the building block of everything you write in wikipedia articles.

• Can you make me an article for X?

I don't make articles, sorry! however you can! just check out the guidelines at Your first article, and also go over through the Notability and Reliable sources guidelines (both are essential!) and the Simplified Manual of Style. if you want, I can help with your draft through copyreading and making it comply with these policies, however you'll still have to add sources and stuff. also note that making an article is very hard (but not impossible) for newcomers given the difficulty in determining which sources you can use as well as the truckload of reading material, so you might want to start with easier tasks first.

• So if not make a new article, what easy stuff can I do as a beginner?

great question! I'd suggest checking out the Task center and your Homepage tab for this. in particular, copyediting is easy as long as you've got a good grasp of English grammar (and know the difference between British and American English and know not to change them when not necessary).

• You haven't responded in a while. Where may I get an answer?

if I've been inactive in a while, please check out the Teahouse. it's a great place to ask questions, and once in a while I may pop in as well to help there.

• How do you revert fast?

Recent Changes and Ultraviolet are my friends. they're great.

sorry, I can't! millions of people use Wikipedia as a serious research tool so we have to keep our stuff clean and avoid misleading our audience. however instead of saving your changes, you could make a mock edit by placing your changes, but pressing Show preview instead of Publish changes and then taking a snip of the preview to show to your friends!

great/bad for them! unfortunately, Wikipedia has to remain neutral at all times, which includes not saying that something is the best/the worst/other opinions unless said opinions are made by lots of sources and outlets, and even then it would be X is regarded by many as great/bad/etc and not X is great/bad/etc.

• I am/know the person the article is about. Why are my stuff removed?

you may have a conflict of interest with the article, which could make it difficult for you to edit neutrally. you can still edit, however unless it's for minor stuff like typo fixes, it's better for you to discuss stuff at the relevant article's talk page first.

• Why are you reverting the truth/reinstating false information?

Verifiability, not truth. truth itself is messy and relative, so what is true to one may not be true to another, so defining a singular truth to add is impossible. additionally, having sources allows anyone to see for themselves whether what we claim in an article is true or not. that goes the same way for false information: unless sources say that the claim/s made are false, it would be disruptive to remove them without getting consensus from the talk page first.

• What pronouns do you use?

I use any! I don't mind you using he, she, or they. thanks for asking!

• How'd you make your fancy signature?

a bit of CSS trickery! you can use   Treat the above as wikimarkup and some <span> to apply CSS to your sig, which allows you to do stuff like signatures with backgrounds (color), round signatures (border-radius), and whatever'll fit in the 255-char limit.

Honestly, after trying the GoogleTrans, it felt kind of exasperating. :( Sometimes, it would move me to the beginning of the post, and the translation would block the text I am writing, causing problems. I've disabled it for now, but I'll try it later! Tails Wx 14:07, 2 March 2023 (UTC)

Adding Images to Wikipedia

hi @Greatideas43! I'm assuming this is about Kennedy Obohwemu?

• if the image you're planning to use is already in Wikipedia Commons, you may use the image (even if it's not yours). you may edit the infobox you're using and write the file's name (as seen in Commons) onto the image field.
• if the image you're planning to use is not yours, you may not use that image. to make a long story short, images have to have a free license whenever possible, which most images in the Internet don't have (if no license is mentioned, it's considered to be All Rights Reserved).
• if the image you're planning to use is yours (perhaps you met Obohwemu yourself?) great! you may upload it through the file upload wizard to be able to use it here. note that uploading here means licensing it under a free license as mentioned earlier, which means anyone can use it freely, make edits of it, and use it commercially (though there are licenses that require others to credit you even with these), you can't just upload an image which says that wikipedia has exclusive rights over your image. once that's done, the rest of the process is simple: you may edit thw infobox to add the image in it as mentioned above.

Concerns

Hello Melecie,

Sorry to bother you. An administrator has expressed concerns over my edits on Obohwemu’s page. He/she feels I have close connections to the subject, hence my decision to refrain from making further contributions to his article.

I wanted to make clarifications directly on the administrator’s talk page, but I felt it would be wiser discussing it with you as you are officially my Wikipedia mentor.

I would like to clarify that I have no close ties to Obohwemu. I could submit my passport, personal photo and other personally identifiable info for verification if that would help.

I was sitting among the audience when Obohwemu conducted a literary competition for all secondary schools in Kogi State. My school narrowly lost out to the eventual winners. This was six (6) years ago. Despite the loss, I have not stopped admiring the motivation that Obohwemu had to put together that expensive project. These days, people like him don’t get the recognition they truly deserve. It’s always all about entertainers and politicians!

I was shocked when I searched Wikipedia and his profile was not there, whereas people who had far less achievements had their articles all over the place. It had always been on my mind to create an account on Wikipedia and submit a draft of Obohwemu’s profile, hoping it would get approved.

If you recall, when I joined Wikipedia as an editor you asked if this was about my ‘colleague’. Obohwemu probably doesn’t even know about my existence, but I admire him all the same. You can consider me a big fan. Few days after I registered my account on Wikipedia I discovered that his page had been created. That was simply amazing! By the way, I had absolutely nothing to do with the page creation. There’s absolutely no way I would submit a draft and the article would be approved in just a few days!

Anyways, I went through his Wikipedia article and noticed there were conspicuously missing elements. I have had the opportunity to read his books and his mini-biography, so you can understand why I have certain information. A simple search on Google would also reveal relevant findings.

I hope this clarifies the situation.

That being said, I would like to ask if I could suggest some edits on Obohwemu’s article as I would no longer want to make direct edits. If you or any other editor could make those edits on my behalf, I would be appreciative.

Kindly advise.
