Nidoran♂ (ニドラン♂) is a fictional character from the Pokémon franchise. Prior to the introduction of genders in the Pokémon video games, this Pokémon, its evolutions, and the Nidoran♀ evolutionary family were the only Pokémon whose gender players could be completely sure about. Male Nidorans have larger horns than the females.

Name origin

The name Nidoran probably comes from Nidorino, which this Pokémon evolves into.

Avaliability

Nidoran♂ is available in every Pokémon game except Ruby and Sapphire, though it can be traded to those two games from FireRed and Leaf Green.

It is more common in the Red Version than the Blue.

Information

Nidoran♂ will raise its big ears to check surroundings, and will move them in many directions dectect danger. Nidoran♂ can do this because it has developed muscles for moving the ears. If it does sense danger, it will attack by stabbing with the horn to inject poison. The size of its body thorns indicate toxicity.

Even the slightest sound does not escape this Pokémon's notice.

Anime appearance

Nidoran♂ appears in an episode alongside its female counterpart, where the two Pokémon fall in love, and Ash and Misty try and get their Trainers together, too.
