Plestia Alaqad (Arabic: بلستيا العقاد; born 2000/2001)[1] is a Palestinian citizen journalist.

Online presence

Prior to the 2023 Israel-Hamas war, Alaqad's online content mainly consisted of travel content to locations such as Cyprus and Turkey.[2] Alaqad gained recognition online after she began posting video diaries documenting life in Gaza during the 2023 Israel-Hamas war to Instagram.[1][3][4] By November 3, Alaqad had accumulated 2.1 million followers on Instagram.[3] Alaqad's videos have been shared by the ABC,[5] BBC,[6] Business Today,[7] The Independent,[8] The New York Times,[9] PBS NewsHour,[10] and The Washington Post.[11]

She was interviewed by the GB News Breakfast Show where she was asked if Gaza citizens have any way of escaping, to which she responded "Go where?". She has also shown the safety equipment worn by journalists and highlighted the lack of protection it can offer as, "No matter if you are wearing the uniform or not, you will be killed."[7] In her videos Alaqad has expressed understanding about how her late grandfather felt and experienced during the Nakba in 1948, which resulted in the creation of Israel and led to mass expulsion of Palestinians.[12]
