23°45′34″N 90°22′04″E / 23.7595°N 90.3678°E / 23.7595; 90.3678 SFX Greenherald International School is a private English-Medium school in Bangladesh.[1] Located in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, beside St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, the school is administered by the Catholic Religious Sisters, known as Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions (RNDM). Even though the school is Catholic, a majority of the students are Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists.

History

The school was established in 1912 by the RNDM Sisters, Christian Missionary and is the first English medium school in Bangladesh.[2] The school is essentially a continuation of the Luxmibazar English medium school, which was shut down during the Liberation of Bangladesh in 1971. Following its closure, it was revived in 1972 under the directive of the Education Ministry, initially catering to foreign nationals' children but later opening to Bangladeshi students as well. The school has been affiliated with the UK's Cambridge University since 1954 and is owned and operated by the Congregation of Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions, a Roman Catholic order with roots in France. The school offers extracurricular activities such as debating, French, science fairs, art competitions, and has athletic teams for basketball, football, and volleyball. It has a debating club run by the students and teachers and a green world earth club.

The students participate in the National Debating Championships in the English language. The school has an annual science fair. The school also teaches French from grade 5. Subject choosing is available from 8th grade.
