CN Chicago Subdivision in Chicago, built and formerly owned by Illinois Central Railroad, is a section of railway from 16th Street Junction in Chicago to Kankakee and then to Leverett in Illinois, with a length of 122.6 miles (197.3 km)[1][2]. As a part of the ICRR Main Line from Chicago to New Orleans, this line connects Champaign Subdivision at its south end and Freeport Subdivision at its north end. Previously, most south-bound trains came or left the Central Station through this line. Nowadays, this line is still busy; passenger services include 3 services of Metra Electric District, South Shore Line, and 3 pairs of Amtrak trains - the Illini, Saluki, and City of New Orleans; freight services are provided by freight trains going in and out of Homewood station.
