reorganizing the order of paragraphs on a current page
Hi 1AmNobody24. On Tuesday (5/23) I tried splitting a current heading into 2 paragraphs. I copied and pasted the way to make headings and updated the paragraph content as Arlene Harris desired. Later I also want to move that paragraph to the bottom of her page. The Bot said I have a heading error. I also updated two references and those references were numbered the same as those they replaced. How do you get the references in the right order? Do you have to start typing at the top to get references in the right order? Or maybe list them in the order they are included on the page? Thank you! JulesJDT (talk) 17:43, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Jules, In your earlier edit you added
[21]
to the reference while changing it, which created an error. It was fixed in the following edit. In your second edit you added the references without the|title=
parameter which is required in all references. You can see in this diff the improvements made to your references. You might also want to check out Introduction to referencing with VisualEditor to learn more about adding and changing references. Nobody (talk) 18:11, 30 May 2024 (UTC)- I would like very much to use the VisualEditor but my version of the Editor looks different. There is no option to do automatic edits. In the google version it says Edit Source not Editor. I have used google for all my edits. Will the number of the reference change if I rearrange the information on the Wikipedia page? I want to move some references to other areas because the current page asks for more references in a section that doesn't have any. Thank you so much#24! JulesJDT (talk) 16:59, 31 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Jules, if you want to use a reference multiple times in an article you can do that by: First, change the current reference from
<ref>...</ref>
to<ref name="1">...</ref>
. Second, add<ref name="1" />
to the place where you want the reference to also be. Nobody (talk) 06:08, 1 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from Davidbeersisme (18:07, 4 June 2024)
Hi there,
one of the pages I am trying to edit has a title of Brandon Mall, however we just rebranded the name as Brandon Exchange, what is the best way to change the name of the page. I read about different possibilities but wondering which is the best option --Davidbeersisme (talk) 18:07, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Davidbeersisme, Take a look at WP:RMTR to learn how to request a move to a different name. Nobody (talk) 18:41, 4 June 2024 (UTC)

"clerking" at WP:UAA
While comments are always welcome if they include new information, only administrators should be declining reports at UAA. I've also noticed you replying to some reports by the bot, which isn't particualrly helpful either. UAA does not have clerks, the idea that it should have them has been repeatedly rejected. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 17:08, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @JSS, I can agree with the first part, but stronly disagree with the second part. If I see that the bot reported account is block evading, an LTA, or has done something that shows their username violates policy I'll reply so a patrolling administrator knows what to look for, calling that not helpful makes no sense to me. Nobody (talk) 18:33, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- Each report is reviwed by an admin the same way regardless of any such comments. The bot only reports very new users so it usually literally only takes a few seconds to review each report. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 19:20, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- That doesn't mean it's not helpful if the issue is already pointed out and I've noticed that those reports are often patrolled faster than others. Nobody (talk) 19:30, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- @JSS I've sent you a mail explaining myself a bit more. Nobody (talk) 05:30, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
- Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting you're in any kind of trouble or anything, and the truth is there isn't actually a rule anywhere that says not to comment on bot reports. It's just that I've been working at UAA a very long time and have never felt such comments helped me come to a decision, as the only consideration there is whether or not the name is a blatant violation. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 20:01, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- 1AmNobody24, if your intent is to help admins at various admin noticeboards, and the admins active at said noticeboards tell you that your edits aren't helpful, then it's best to direct your good intentions elsewhere.-- Ponyobons mots 20:07, 7 June 2024 (UTC)

- @Ponyo I've already said below that I'll reduce the edits. So don't make it sound like I'm ignoring JSS. Nobody (talk) 21:31, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

- @JSS I agree that some of my edits at UAA/Bot probably were not helpful. The way I currently see it is that: If the account has an ovious issue that would get it blocked at UAA (IU). It's worth pointing it out. (Due to this.) If I don't see an obvious issue I won't comment. Nobody (talk) 07:28, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- The software used to render SVG files has been updated to a new version, fixing many longstanding bugs in SVG rendering. [6]
- The HTML used to render all headings is being changed to improve accessibility. It was changed last week in some skins (Vector legacy and Minerva). Please test gadgets on your wiki on these skins and report any related problems so that they can be resolved before this change is made in Vector-2022. The developers are still considering the introduction of a Gadget API for adding buttons to section titles if that would be helpful to tool creators, and would appreciate any input you have on that.
- The HTML markup used for citations by Parsoid changed last week. In places where Parsoid previously added the
mw-reference-text
class, Parsoid now also adds thereference-text
class for better compatibility with the legacy parser. More details are available. [7]
Problems
- There was a bug with the Content Translation interface that caused the tools menus to appear in the wrong location. This has now been fixed. [8]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 11 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 12 June. It will be on all wikis from 13 June (calendar). [9][10]
- The new version of MediaWiki includes another change to the HTML markup used for citations: Parsoid will now generate a
<span class="mw-cite-backlink">
wrapper for both named and unnamed references for better compatibility with the legacy parser. Interface administrators should verify that gadgets that interact with citations are compatible with the new markup. More details are available. [11] - On multilingual wikis that use the
<translate>
system, there is a feature that shows potentially-outdated translations with a pink background until they are updated or confirmed. From this week, confirming translations will be logged, and there is a new user-right that can be required for confirming translations if the community requests it. [12]

Speedy deletion nomination of User:Aminurwiki
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. A tag has been placed on User:Aminurwiki requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Moving page.
Hello 1AmNobody24, Please always check implausible redirects whenever you move from a user page to draft like you did here. However, it's unlikely moving article from another users page to draft without their permission. In such problem, tag the page for deletion as WP:WEBHOST if its advert. You can also talk to the user on their talk page. Thanks. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 10:47, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @SafariScribe, I used to always tag the pages as U5, but some administrators decline and move them to draftspace instead. I don't know if there's a consensus for this or just different administrators preferences. Also implausible redirects from move is not a deletion reason as can be seen at WP:R3. Nobody (talk) 10:58, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- It is not for user pages expect during name changing. Please try to make sure they are purely promotional or WEBHOST before tagging. That may be the reason for the decline. Cheers! Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 11:01, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- That's not it. If G11 applies, then I'll tag them G11. Some pages ars U5 worthy only if they are in userspace and at the same time completely alright if they are in draftspace. Nobody (talk) 11:06, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

Problems
- Cloud Services tools were not available for 25 minutes last week. This was caused by a faulty hardware cable in the data center. [17]
- Last week, styling updates were made to the Vector 2022 skin. This caused unforeseen issues with templates, hatnotes, and images. Changes to templates and hatnotes were reverted. Most issues with images were fixed. If you still see any, report them here. [18]
Changes later this week
