The Casimir Pulaski Foundation (Polish: Fundacja im. Kazimierza Pułaskiego, FKP) is an independent, non-partisan think tank based in Warsaw, Poland. Named after Count Casimir Pulaski, the foundation specializes in foreign and security policy issues within the transatlantic and post-Soviet contexts. It is one of only two Polish non-governmental organizations that are partner organizations of the Council of Europe.

History

The Casimir Pulaski Foundation, which was founded in Warsaw in 2004 by Zbigniew Pisarski, Katarzyna Pisarska, Radosław Ciszewski and Adam Jarczyński, is one of the leading think tanks for foreign and security policy in Poland.[1][2][3]

The Foundation's fields of activity include publishing strategic analyses for political, civil society and private actors, advising decision-makers to identify trends in the European and transatlantic security environment and recommend solutions, and organizing the Warsaw Security Forum, which has been held annually since 2014.

In 2017, the Casimir Pulaski Foundation was awarded the 2017 Think Tank Award for the best international affairs think tank in the EU by the British magazine Prospect. In 2018, 2019 and 2020, the Casimir Pulaski Foundation was also recognized as the leading Polish think tank in the field of defence and security policy according to the "Global Go To Think Tank Index" reports[4]

Fields of activity of the Casimir Pulaski Foundation

The Casimir Pulaski Foundation engages in research with a special focus on Central and Eastern Europe, as well as publishing analyses and providing policy advice. Its aim is to describe and explain international events, highlight trends in the European and transatlantic security environment, and recommend solutions for government decision-makers and the private sector. Additionally, the foundation organizes seminars and workshops, as well as the Warsaw Security Forum.[5]

Furthermore, the foundation awards the "Knight of Freedom Award" and is part of the "Women in International Security" network and the "Grupa Zagranica," an association of Polish non-governmental organizations for international cooperation.[6]

Publications

The Casimir Pulaski Foundation, in collaboration with international experts from various fields (foreign policy, defense, energy, democratic resilience), regularly publishes the Pulaski Policy Papers, the Pulaski Report, and the Pulaski Viewpoint. These publications analyze important foreign and domestic policy and economic issues relevant to Poland.

It has been held annually in Warsaw, Poland, since 2014 and brings together leading politicians, experts, military leaders and business representatives from over 90 countries to discuss current security challenges and strategies and to promote dialog between policy makers, experts and civil society actors.[7]

Since 2005, the Casimir Pulaski Foundation has presented the "Knight of Freedom Award" annually to outstanding personalities or institutions who have contributed to the promotion of the values represented by General Casimir Pulaski, such as freedom, justice and democracy.
