Dee Shy (born Doreen Samantha Mason on 6 May 1973) is a British rapper, born and raised in the city of Birmingham, who is also of Jamaican descent. She has been rapping since the mid-1980s alongside her husband/partner Darren Mason from the French band SKO (RME) who were originally a Birmingham-based commercial rap trio from the UK who were signed to Sony BMG France under NRG Music.[1]
History
She is not just a rapper as Dee Shy; was also a beauty model who was featured in the "Black Hair Magazine" which is an "international bi-monthly magazine for the style-conscious celebrity black women around the world".[2] In 2001 Mason survived a car accident. During an interview with Jerade James Jr for Future Topic and Black British Musicians Magazine, she stated how the incident had changed her perception of life, and she decided to tone down her lyrical content towards Hip Hop. This change in approach caught the attention of the Gospel genre who associated her with the movement, which led to several requests to later integrate.[3] During the 2020 pandemic in Baltimore, USA Dr Frederick Ware-Newsome of Newsome Gospel Awards awarded Dee Shy the Female Artist of the Year Award . At the time she could not travel to collect the initial globally televised award, due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

Today
Although she's not considered a Gospel recording artist during an award ceremony in 2019 Dee Shy was introduced to the UK music executive, record producer and rapper, Mark Duffus, (Blak Prophetz), owner of Digital Jukebox Records. She sent him her rap songs and she was later signed to his label in the same to release more conscious rap songs including the mentoring of problematic youth within her community.[4] Today, Dee Shy continues to release new conscious themed rap songs under Digital Jukebox Records and Sony Music Distribution.
