Movement Charter feedback

After the Movement Charter ratification vote last month from the affliates and individual voters, the Movement Charter Drafting Committee (MCDC) and Charter Election Commission (CEC) published all comments submitted during the vote. This involves 65 comments from Affiliates and 447 individual comments, though no summary of the same is yet available.

After the WMF Board of Trustees refused to ratify the current draft of the Movement Charter, it is not currently clear what the future steps are. The charter was previously covered by the Signpost in the issues published on 22 July,4 July, and 8 June.

Wikimania is underway

Wikimania 2024 in Katowice, Poland is now underway. Events will start at 10:00 local time (08:00 UTC) and end around 17:00 local time (15:00 UTC). The closing ceremony will be around 17:00 local time on 10th August (15:00 UTC). Many programs as well as the opening and closing ceremonies will be live-streamed, with online registration currently open for virtual participation.

U4C special elections are now open

The special elections for Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) are now underway, with voting beginning from July 27 and continuing until 10 August 2024, 23:59:59 UTC. Eligible voters may vote using Securepoll here. A Candidates summary was published by the currently seated members of the U4C, as well as several guides written by the community.

This special election was also covered in the last Signpost issue.

Dumping ground

• Last month, Barkeep49 resigned from the Arbitration Committee to focus all his energy on the U4C. This brings the Arbitration Committee to 10 active and 3 inactive members.

• Something else that was interesting about this year's Wikimania is that the Wikimedian of the Year was a member of the English Wikipedia. Okay it's weird talking about myself in the third person. Anyways, I figured I should probably mention this here. I plan to write an essay in the near future about my experiences because a lot of interesting things happened.   @Seraphimblade Categories like commons:Category:Wikimania 2024 day 3 recordings should be already populated with many of the recordings. Some of them are still remaining, but raw recordings (all sessions for a given room combined) is at WMF Youtube channel for now.

  I am informed that either Commons or the Wikimania site will have a dedicated landing page that links to all recordings etc for posterity reasons. @Nadzik should be able to tell us more. Soni (talk) 05:49, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
