Present career
After starring in Parenni Maya Jalaima which won the best story award at the Nepali Film Aawrds, Jharana promptly made her way into Mumbai to involve herself in many projects such as modelling for Sony Ericsson and Bajaj Pulsar. Jharana Bajracharya last made her appearance at Reading in London on 7th January 2007 for the Tamudhee Lhosar show. It was there she revealed that she has been in Mumbai for the last couple months and that she is struggling in act in Bollywood movies again. Her last Nepali film was Sanjeevani which was filmed in Sikkim. She has also been nominated for the Best Actress category for this years Nepali film awards due to be held on 20th of April.
Controversy
She has managed to stay in the limelight for various reasons and one example can be because she did a daring dance sequence for the Bollywood movie Love in Nepal which she acted in 2003. A Nepali girl dancing very provocatively and needing sexual attention caused an uproar in Nepal as it was going against the culture and traditions. In 2003 when she appeared on a chat show 'Dishanirdesh' on Nepal television, Jharana was questioned what motivated her to do the raunchy song in Love in Nepal and whether she knew what the reaction of the audience was going to be like. Jharana said that she did it because she wanted to and that she knew the Nepali people would not accept it, however she said would not do those dance in a Nepali movie.
The Nepali weekly Jana Aastha, in its March 28 2007 issue, published the report that Jharana has given birth to a child from her relationship with businessman Shyam Kakshapati,(owner of Nanglo restaurants) who's twice her age and already married. The weekly also said that the two had married secretly, with Jharana leaving her mother to stay at a house in Bhainsepati provided by Kakshapati before giving birth.
But Jharana outright denied both the pregnancy and childbirth, laughing the whole thing off as a rumor during a live phone conversation with Prakash Subedi on his program Rajatpat on Kantipur Television. According to Prakash, the actress said that she knew Kakshapati but wasn't in a relationship with him; and that she had met him only twice around 10 years ago. She said that she wasn't bothered by the news.
