Virgin 1 is a forthcoming television channel from Virgin Media Television. It will be available from 1st October 2007 on Digital terrestrial television, cable and satellite, replacing Ftn.[2] The channel is intended to be Virgin Media's attempt to rival Sky One.
The channel will broadcast with a 24 hour schedule on cable and satellite, and on Channel 20 on Freeview[3] with catch-ups, previews and other content available via Virgin Central and internet.[4]
Virgin and ITV are in talks about offering space for Virgin 1 or Setanta Sports News replacing the ITV2+1 channel as part of a review.[5]
The Virgin 1 website will have online downloads and social networking facilities. £40 million will be invested along with advertising revenue.
Programming
The schedule for Virgin 1 will consist of a mixture of American and British comedy, drama and factual programming. The channel will be pitched towards its female-targeted channel Living and the male-targeted channel Bravo. The channel will also show commissioned content from Living, Bravo, Challenge and Trouble. Virgin 1 is expected to also show some of the better content from Ftn and current content of which Virgin Media Television holds the terrestrial rights to.
Some programmes that will be shown on Virgin 1 include:
- Boston Legal[1]
- Crime Invasion: Britain's New Underworld[6]
- The Great British: Penis Envy[7]
- Help Me Help You[1]
- It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia[8]

- The Sarah Connor Chronicles[10]
- Star Trek (The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise)[12]
