Canberra is the capital city of Australia, and the Australian Capital Territory. The city is home to a number of important musical venues and institutions, including the Llewellyn Hall performance venue, part of the Australian National University School of Music. The local music scene includes many bars and nightclubs for local performers, mostly clustered in Dickson, Kingston and the City Centre. Canberra is also home to a number of music festivals, most famously including Stonefest, the Canberra International Chamber Music Festival, the FAME Music Festival and the National Folk Festival.

Canberra's Local Music Scene

Canberra has a strong overage scene, but a relatively weak underage scene. Organizations like Standout Productions, Interact Records and All Ages ACT are responsible for putting on gigs through out Canberra, often with mixed success.

A more recent addition to the promotion of the ACT music industry is "Music in the ACT" (www.mitact.com) which aims to link musicians, venues and businesses in the ACT region and host a forum so the site can be used as a networking tool for the industry. The launch of the MITACT site will be accompanied by a launch concert "Swampfest" to be held on the 2nd of June, marking the official launch date for the site. MITACT is also supporting a brand new ACT Music Video Festival by the name of "Flickety Flix" which will be held on the 23rd of May 2007 for the first time. More information about the ACT Music Video Festival head on over to www.myspace.com/flicketyflix.
