"Astro has previously announced that it would introduce 50 new channels with the launch of the MEASAT-3 satellite. However, delays affecting the manufacture of the satellite and problems with the launch vehicle has pushed back the launch of the satellite from mid-2005 to December 12, 2006."

Question : Is this paragraph still relevant/necessary?

Is this page still a stub?

Is this page still a stub? L-Bit 09:51, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

  • Hm... afraid so, there isn't much detailed information in the article, so I guess it's still a stub. =) --Andylkl 06:18, Mar 3, 2005 (UTC)

how about a disambig? Astro was the dog on jetsons, and also a car name?

I noticed a bunch of new channels listed. Some thoughts:
1. Huh? I don't see these showing up on my decoder (Nokia model), even with the most recent satellite scan last night.
2 No mention of it on Astro's website?
3. No Animax? Even after a bunch of LowYat Netters demand for the channel on the forums? RAM 08:55, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

CCTV9 (Ch. 36) should be in Family Package

it is because I did not subscribe to any chinese package (I only subscribe 4 mini packages [no Variety]), and I still got that CCTV9 (Ch. 36) channel... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 124.82.30.120 (talk) 05:24, 24 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

CCTV9 is actually in the dynasty package (chinese channels) but is given free to any Astro subscriber, even if they do not subscribe to the Dynasty/Emperor package. See www.astro.com.my / Astro Guide. Acs4b 09:40, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Measat

I would like to clarify that Measat 1 (picture) is not just used in Malaysia ang ASTRO, because MEASAT is also been used by Philippine TV Networks such as GMA Network and SOLAR Entertainment Corporation. So i'll gonna change it's description from "... over Malaysia" to "... over South-east Asia."

Astro MAX

Is it even possible to transfer recorded programs to DVD or video tapes as claimed on the page? HuguanSiou 08:57, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but to transfer recorded programmes to DVD or VHS, one must have a VCR and it must be connected in some way to the Astro MAX decoder. This feature is available on My MAX (The place where recorded programmes on Astro are stored; Channel 999). However, I am not so sure how the transferring of programmes are done, as I have not tried this feature on Astro MAX before which means the sentence "Copies of programmes recorded can also be transferred to DVD or VHS tape" which can be seen on the page currently remains not cited. Adding information on New Channels

Dont you guys think adding a whole paragraph for new channels announced is overkill? Why not just add the channel names and numbers in the Lineup.... You can add other relevant information on the channel on its own page. Expediter 13:25, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In the June issue of Astro Guide, I noticed that there will (probably) be 2 extra channels added to the channels line-up. The channels are hidden within the new channels (Discovery Science, E! Entertainment, etc.) program listings. According to the guide, Astro will have The History Channel on Channel 54 and Crime & Investigation Network on Channel 79. They will be launched (tentatively) on Friday, 15th June.
It's up to you guys who have an account to add these info in the article. I prefer to not edit it myself. =)

IMO, since the channels are listed in a separate page now, why don't we place the history of announced channels inclusion into the now empty section of Channels Line-up. That would distribute the article "evenly", I hope.

Question

anyone has idea what is channel 900, then 911 - 916? I press the I-II button, it indicates Cantonese audio for channels 900, 911, 913 till 916 and English audio for channel 912. Is Astro gonna add new channels again?

Spot on. It's for the "Astro On Demand" (AOD) program, where it features the newest Cantonese dramas, premièring in Malaysia the same time as in Hong Kong. The following is the information I get from the Astro On Demand website.
The newest episode will be released at night (either 8:30pm or 9:30pm), then it will be repeated continuously until another premièring episode replaces it. If viewers missed a previous episode, they can catch it back through designated channels shown in the "AOD schedule" channel 900 or the website. The designated channels will loop 4 consecutive episodes continuously until one week after the series ended.

I wonder if anyone would like to transfer my idea to the main Astro article, or even start a new AOD article. Hytar 10:50, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

HDTV Broadcast / Astro SVG

In 2009, trials of HDTV will start in Malaysia. Will Astro be broadcasting in HDTV, or it will be broadcasting solely in SDTV?
