Lynne Franks (born 16 April 1948) is a public relations consultants. Franks is a United Kingdom-based commentator on women's issues, sustainability, and consumer lifestyles. She also claims to be the inspiration for the character Edina Monsoon on the television series Absolutely Fabulous, having founded her first public relations company at her own kitchen table in 1970 when she was twenty-one.[1]
In 1992 she sold her PR firm to focus on using her communication skills to encourage partnership between business and society, leaving London to travel the world with her event 'What Women Want' and working with multinational corporations, bureaucrats and grassroots organizations to draw attention to the changing position of women in society. Prior to attending the Beijing Women's Conference, she was the chairman of the UK's first women's radio station and has become a spokesperson on women's issues and socially responsible business practices.
Lynne Franks is currently developing SEED: the Sustainable Enterprise Empowerment Dynamics, a network aimed at training and empowering women in sustainable enterprise and community leadership.
Franks, who has two children, divides her time between London and Oxford. She divorced from her husband Henry in 2003.
