The University College of Medical Sciences, 'UCMS', Delhi, is a Medical college affiliated to Delhi University.
History
It was founded in the year 1971, with the classes for the first batch being held in the Department of Chemistry, Delhi University, North Campus. It then started having its clinical postings at Meerut Medical College. Shortly, it shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in South Delhi.
In 1986, it shifted to its present location at Dilshad Garden and was associated with Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, a 1000 bedded institution, as its teaching hospital.
Future
Two Hospitals- Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital (Under Construction) (Timarpur) and Delhi Cancer Centre (Functioning), will come to be associated with UCMS.

Departments
College Block, Out Patient Departments, Wards, Central Laboratory Services & O.T. Block and other ancillary facilities (Library, Animal Housing, Mortuary, General store, Blood Bank, Central kitchen for In Patients, Central Sterilization Services).
It also houses a Nursing College. UCMS also conducts Bachelor courses in Radiology, Lab Technology, Preventive and Social Medicine (PSM).
Separate hostels for under-graduate Boys & Girls, Nursing students, Post Graduate students and resident doctors are available in the campus. Separate residential buildings for faculty and staff exists.
Well laid-out playgrounds, with outdoor facilities for tennis, basketball, football, hockey and cricket are available along with the indoor games for the students and staff .
The institute has consistently been ranked among the top few medical institutes of the country by the MCI.
It is also considered among the top research centres of the country as far as biomedical research is concerned.
Facts about the Institute
Famous alumni of the institute include, Dr. Sanjiv Malik, President IMA and President, SAARC Medical Association Prof A.K. Sethi (Anesthesia), Prof SB Sharma (Biochemistry), Dr. Harsh Vardhan Sharma, Dr. Anil Bansal,Past President DMA, Palash Sen, lead singer of Euphoria, Dr Mahesh Sharma, and Prof Anil Aggrawal (1972 batch) Dr Satish Kumar ,Dr Kashif mazhar,Dr Kripa Shanker Gupta among others.
Several students of the 1972 batch have excelled in various fields. Dr. Jagdish Suri now heads the department of respiratory medicine at the prestigious Safdarjang Hospital. Dr. Ravi Gupta is a leading radiologist of Delhi. Dr. Ashwani Mehta eminent laparoscopic surgeon and the managing director cum chairman of the prestigious Kolmet Hospital. Dr. Upinder Singh Arora heads the department of rehabilitation at AIIMS.Many students doing there postgraduation from instiutes like Harvard,John hopkins & south california
The institute has produced top rankers at PG entrance examinations in the past (which reached its zenith in 2001 when 7 out of the top 10 DPG rankers were from UCMS), the USMLE results are always fascinating and the institute, surprisingly, has a good success rate at CAT also, with its alumni having been students of IIM [A,L,I], ISB, FMS,IMT, and other top b-schools in India.The Med / b school corporate alumni working with companies like Lehmann brothers,Ranbaxy,Dr Reddys,Astrazeneca,IBM,E&Y.Many budding young talent are sure to make big name in corporate world.Recently, an alumnus of the institute presently persuing his MBA from a prestigious institute, has been invited by one of the most sought after employers, McKinsey and Company, to complete his summer internship there.
The institute is a network centre for the National Brain Research Centre and plans to start a telemedicine centre are underway.
It is also the nodal centre for AIDS in Delhi along with Safdarjung.
It is the only Trauma centre in delhi apart from Susruta Trauma Centre at Lok Nayak.
It also has a fully equipped Burns Ward.
It also boasts of India's first NAT(Nucleic Acid Testing) Facility in its blood bank.
