Menasha Ridge Press

Menasha Ridge Press—located in Birmingham, Alabama—is a book publisher and packager and an information provider for the outdoor recreation and travel industries. Founded by Bob Sehlinger in 1982, Menasha Ridge is widely recognized as a leading independent book publisher covering the outdoors, wilderness sport, wildlife, cooking, history, adventure, dining, and travel worldwide. The Menasha Ridge list includes many leading adventure, environmental, and nature writers including Colin Angus, Richard Bangs, Tao Berman, Jon Bowermaster, M. J. Eberhart, Johnny Molloy, William Nealy, Andre Skurka, Buck Tilton, and others.

Menasha Ridge Press is best known for three series in the outdoor recreation field:

  • 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles, which covers twenty-nine cities and locales
  • Best Tent Camping, which covers twenty-five states
  • Day and Overnight Hikes, which covers ten parks and recreation areas

Menasha Ridge also packages the popular "Unofficial Guides" series for Wiley publishing. The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland was voted Best Guidebook.

The award-winning, best-selling books and series produced by Menasha Ridge Press are known for their innovation, authority, and scrupulous attention to detail. Through Web sites, maps, and the Keen speakers bureau, Menasha Ridge is a leading information provider in the field. Books by Menasha Ridge Press are sold and distributed by Publishers Group West and can be found online at menasharidge.com.

In 2007, Menasha Ridge merged with Clerisy Press to form Keen Communications.

Clerisy Press

Clerisy Press—located in Cincinnati, Ohio—is a book publisher and information provider in the areas of sports, sports medicine, health, fitness, nutrition, business, and travel. Founded in 2006 by Richard Hunt, Clerisy Press merged with Menasha Ridge Press to form Keen Communications. Clerisy’s first book—Crosley, by Rusty McClure, Michael A. Banks, and David Stern—reached numerous bestseller lists, including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and Business Week.

Other Clerisy Press authors include former Olympic marathoner Julie Isphording and well-known business/creativity expert Doug Hall. Books by Clerisy Press are sold and distributed by Publishers Group West and can be found online at clerisypress.com.

Wilderness Press

In April 2008, Keen Communications purchased Wilderness Press, located in Berkeley, California. Before 1967 no other trail guides like it existed for the backcountry. The first run of 2,800 copies sold out in less than two months and its success heralded the beginning of Wilderness Press. In the past 41 years, Wilderness Press has expanded to cover all of California, Alaska, Hawaii, the U.S. Southwest and Pacific Northwest, New England, Canada, and Baja.

Wilderness Press continues to set the mark for comprehensive, accurate, and readable outdoor books. From sea kayaking to snowshoeing, and leisurely rambles through the woods to challenging climbs on glacial mountains, they publish and distribute the highest quality books and maps in the industry. Hikers, backpackers, kayakers, skiers, snowshoers, climbers, surfers, and trail runners rely on Wilderness Press for accurate outdoor adventure information. Wilderness Press products are available at bookstores, gift shops, and information centers throughout the country and at wildernesspress.com.
