Overflowing

hi, thanks for corrections in the description of image of Powai Lake in 2005 Maharashtra floods – actually the Lake was not trying to overflow, Bhadani was overflowing with wiki-energy (lol). --Bhadani 13:25, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Request

Would you be kind enough to balance the argument in Suttee with an Indian perspective. Also, let me know if you think I am overreacting --Pranathi 05:14, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks much for replying, Sundar. we can't really justify Suttee - I am not (& will not) justifying/defending it (I only want the comment removed). lived in a space that we occupy now. I find that kind of antiseptic.

if the factual accuracy of the quote is disputed, then it can be removed The factual accuracy is in dispute, but they argue that the accuracy is immaterial. Also it's acknowledged that Napier was not a big player in the sati abolition dynamics, but his comment is kept for it's value as a sound bite. I don't agree. The reason I wanted an Indian perspective was that the 2 others in the dialogue don't acknowledge the rascist connotations of the comment, but I am glad to see that you do.

take a break from that article I think I'll take your advice. I'll stop by .. try to sort out Thanks, I look forward to seeing you there. --Pranathi 18:28, 11 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No, no offense taken. I tend to think that India always was a civilizational entity and had a distinct cultural ethos (much like Europe), regardless of it's political unity. I agree that historical wrongs must not be justified. My POV though, is that India is not defined/defended by her own folk and is at the mercy of a solely western version of her history. Most Indians think of western accounts as the neutral 'outsider' POV, whereas they may also have their own agenda and are seldom NPOV. Wikipedia is one of few places available to discuss & try to correct the imbalance. --Pranathi 07:03, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, it seems like we are reaching common ground on suttee discussion pages!! --Pranathi 15:14, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I am interested in India related articles especially of South India. Now I am reading some of your contributions. Whenever I need your help in understanding some aspects of Indian life, I would trouble you !

me

Hi. just saw your post. Didn't notice it as pamri had posted a message after you. I'll reply to you later..., I want to finish the refs. in the eco of India first (don't want to keep people waiting for so many hours) :). User:Nichalp/sg 09:48, August 11, 2005 (UTC)

Mumbai

I'm having a dispute with a user on the definition of 'Mumbai'. (Template Talk:Mumbai infobox). Mumbai is defined by the two districts. This area is called the Mumbai metropolis. A city/metropolis in India is defined by a municipality. He cites the MMRDA website (see the map). [MMRDA is a state govt. initiative, not a municipality].

Unfortunately the term "Mumbai" is not used at all outside the municipal limits as defined on the Mumbai page, and is not considered a part of the city by anyone of us here, or by residents in those area, (New Bombay/Kalyan etc.). User:Nichalp/sg 06:13, August 16, 2005 (UTC)

I glanced over the discussion. Will give my inputs once I find some time. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 06:34, August 16, 2005 (UTC)

My mistake. The ticket seemed to say BOMBAY CENTRAL. Thanks for correcting the correction. However, you may do well to tone down your comments, such as vandalism etc. and ask for the reason before jumping to conclusions.

It will spare you and others a lot of bandwidth.

Vaigai River and adminship

I don't know much about the aspects of the Vaigai River you were asking about, but the role of the river in Sangam lore sounds interesting; I organized similar information about the Narmada River into a section of that article, which may helpful to you in organizing the information for the Vaigai article. Whatever you know about the Varushanad Hills or the Kambam Valley would be helpful in getting those articles started as well.

Thanks for the offer to nominate me for adminship; I don't think it is something I want to take on right now, but I will let you know if I change my mind.
