Revision as of 20:37, 11 June 2008
The Carling Cup 2008-09 will be the 49th staging of the Football League Cup, a knockout competition for England's top 92 football clubs. The competition name reflects a sponsorship deal with lager brand Carling.
First Round
The draw for the first round will take place on June 13, 2008, with matches being played two months later in August.[1]
The 72 Football League clubs compete from the First Round, which is divided into North and South sections. Each section is divided equally into a pot of seeded clubs and a pot of unseeded clubs. Clubs' rankings depend upon their finishing position in the 2007–08 season.

Second Round
The eleven Premier League teams that are not involved in european competetion enter at this stage along with the winners from Round One.
Third Round
The nine teams that are involved in european competetion enter at this stage along with the winners from Round Two.
