Incidentally IRP, I have some information on Ronz which you might find rather interesting. It seems that for the last several months, Ronz has been involved in a torrid affair with Wikipedia member Gogo Dodo! I found out this rather salacious bit of information from Tony DeMera as he and I were sharing a MOON PIE and an RC COLA in the city square of Salem. We were talking about Ronz's supposed involvement in a Ponzi scheme (which fortunately proved false) involving my cousin, an excon named Francis who lives in Tierra Del Fuego. As it happens, that dastardly British DeMera henchman EJ came up and wanted to sit and share some of our MOON PIE. As it happens, Ronz and Gogo Dodo met on a flight to Cape Town in July. They were both seated in first class (or course, showoffs!) and struck up a conversation when Gogo Dodo happened to be reading a book by Walter Benjamin, Ronz's FAVORITE cultural theorist. They got to talking and after the flight landed, that was it! But nay, a few months later, they ran into each other on the Turkish Riviera at a resort. Well one thing led to another and now they're in a torrid relationship. Please keep everything I have told you a secret lest the cat be let out of the bag. But since you've been so kind to me and got me a time keeper for Christmas, I felt that I had to let you know the scoop. After Tony and EJ left, I called Sammy Brady (who is in hiding because she's pregnant) and we had a good laugh over the matter! Your favorite contributor, Ernie. PS The time keeper you got me is very nice and matches my green scarf.

Merry Christmas

Hello IRP! I just wanted to wish you and your family a merry Christmas! May this Christmas be full of great cheer and holiday spirit. Again, merry Christmas! Ashbey 00:58, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you don't celebrate Christmas, then happy holidays!
Thanks. -- IRP 01:53, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism of the Talmud

That was a prod tag, not an AfD; the user is entitled to remove it. Ironholds (talk) 23:00, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was trying to roll my own edit back, but I saw "Rollback failed". I already noticed the mistake, but thanks for letting me know anyways. -- IRP 23:01, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problemo. I've sent it off to AfD anyway, you can poke your head in there if you want. Ironholds (talk) 23:02, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting the article would very improper on your part. Doing so would obviously be an act againist freedom of speech. The articles quotes references, they are in bold type. Deleting would only reveal your bias and fears. There are articles on criticism of many books, but when you do about the talmud, I Jew am accused of being anti-Semite, disgusting. It's not in an essay form, it lists many, many references including profession books, websites, and quotations from books, and Jewish scholars. It is in point form to help make adjustment. I now have a copy of the article so don't think about about trying to delete it I and others will just put back on! It's call presenting different side, or againist that freedom too?--Standforder (talk) 04:50, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me? I'm not (and never have) accused you of being an anti-semite. The issue is not to do with bias, freedom of speech or "presenting a different side" but rather about how that information is presented. The bible, for example, is not a reliable source. Please look at the points given here as to the issues with the page. Information should not be kept because of, quote, "freedom of speech"; Wikipedia is not a place for original research and is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Ironholds (talk) 06:30, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Indef blocked tagging

Hey there - you don't have to put the indefblocked template on VOA userpages that have not been created. The point is to have less pages, not more - you only tag them if the user has created a page, which puts it in a category to eventually be deleted. Tan | 39 17:08, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The reason why I do it is to alert any users who stumble upon the userpage that the account has been indefinitely blocked. Are you saying that you want me to stop doing it? -- IRP 17:10, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a huge deal, but yes, it's unnecessary and just creates more pages. Any user can see my indefblocked note on their talk page. Don't get me wrong; I highly appreciate your work here. Just giving you friendly advice ;-) Tan | 39 17:12, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

hearts and minds (iraq) talk page

I blanked the page because the only comment was one person putting a link to "American soldiers at their worst" and saying how "There are lots of successful attempts to earn hearts and minds". It wasn't at all constructive and served no purpose therefore I deleted. On my talk page you said I should have reverted to a previous edit but that would be impossible because only one person had written on the page before that it was blank.69.123.106.132 (talk) 01:30, 30 December 2008 (UTC)69.123.106.132[reply]

You can tag the page for deletion by inserting "{{db|reason to delete the page}}" at the top of the page. -- IRP 01:33, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I really didn't feel it was necessary to delete the whole page being that it was only a talk page and not an article. 69.123.106.132 (talk) 01:40, 30 December 2008 (UTC)69.123.106.132[reply]
Then, please explain why you blanked it using the edit summary box. People will think you are a vandal if you don't. -- IRP 01:44, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Abu Salem

I am not sure why you removed the copyvio tag from the article. The text is clearly copied from the site identified. There is very little "reworking" of the original article and that so-called "reworking" does not hide the fact that it was copied from the original article.

I have reinstated the original copyvio tag you removed. I you have any concerns, please let me know. Thanks... ttonyb1 (talk) 15:48, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please be sure to provide an edit summary when reverting an edit that does not constitute vandalism, otherwise, you are violating Wikipedia policy. -- IRP 16:13, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DISPLAYTITLE

{{Helpme|How can I use this on a page? I see every bit of information on this page about that setting, except for how to use it. How can I use it?}}

Hi! $wgRestrictDisplayTitle is set to "true" by default, and after looking over the config files, this is not overridden anywhere. That means you can't use the DISPLAYTITLE magicword to change a title to something else. However, you can use it to decapitalise the first letter of a page, for example on the "IPod" page, you could type {{DISPLAYTITLE:iPod}}, and the page title would then appear to be "iPod". However, you can't change the title to something else. Please note, on non-article pages, this means that you can only change the page name from "Wikipedia:Foo" to "wikipedia:Foo". Stwalkerstertalk ] 21:05, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I know that, but how do I set a page for that setting, like if I wanted to change the title of my sandbox to something completely different? -- IRP 21:10, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{Helpme|see my reply to Stwalkerster}}

You can't. DISPLAYTITLE can only override the case of a title, not the actual name. You can go from Sandbox to sandbox, but not from Sandbox to IRP's Sandbox. // roux   21:39, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Can I use $wgRestrictDisplayTitle to allow any display title? If so, how? -- IRP 21:43, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{Helpme|see my reply to Roux}}

Sorry, no. The setting is disabled, and that means on the entire English Wikipedia. For that matter, it's disabled on all the public Wikimedia Foundation wikis. You could start a topic on the Village Pump asking it to be turned on, but that will probabally be thrown out as it will break stuff that shouldn't become broken. Justin Gaston

If you are still online, send me an email ASAP. I have an email to forward to you regarding Justin Gaston. Thanks, Willking1979 (talk) 00:58, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have e-mail set up on my Wikipedia account. You can send your e-mail to another user. -- IRP 21:00, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The email was from User:Allencoa from Vision Los Angeles, who represents Justin Gaston. He/she said: "Is there anyway I can delete what was previously there (since it is untrue) and keep the post I made?". I emailed Allencoa back and gave him/her Wikipedia's help e-mail address because he did not specify which info was incorrect or what was needed. Thanks, Willking1979 (talk) 21:13, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

James Humphreys

Hi, am trying to move JH disambig to the JH page. Apologies if I screw up! If the JH page can be deleted this could help as I had some trouble moving the disambig page - hope that makes sense familytree101 (talk) 00:02, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I tagged it for deletion because if you blank a page that you have created yourself, we assume you are requesting deletion of it. -- IRP 00:07, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Seems reasonable! In this case the blanking was a hiccup that occurred in the course of a page move - move now effected so deletion not required. Hope that makes sense. James Humphreys is no longer blank. Thanks familytree101 (talk) 00:10, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Some new gossip

Incidentally IRP, I have some information on Ronz which you might find rather interesting. PS The time keeper you got me is very nice and matches my green scarf.

The above page had not been edited since January 2007. When you merged it in, you merged in a lot of stuff that had previously been there but was rewritten/removed as redundant, as well as any actual changes, essentially setting most of the page back two years. (For example, the sections I eliminated during my last rewrite are back, even though I removed none of the actual meaning, just made it a lot more concise, so they're now duplicating stuff that was there anyway). Can you take another look at this? -- Gurch (talk) 23:52, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just merged it without reading. I left the removal of redundant information up to other contributors. -- IRP 00:02, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Which I have done. In future I recommend not making any sort of edit to a policy page without reading it -- Gurch (talk) 00:06, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On Ronz

Fine! I'll gladly cease vandalizing Ronz IRP, I think that I've made my point. Thanks for your oh too poignant warning!

~~IRP, I keep receiving messages from you. Could you kindly leave me alone? I told you I'll leave Ronz alone now that I told the Wikipedia world the kind of person he is. Therefore, I'd advise you to no longer speak to me lest you incur my wrath. I know powerful people IRP, leave me alone, I shan't be any more trouble, if you LEAVE ME ALONE!
