:: No. His name was simply "Sully-Prud'homme". It's just a composed name, which has nothing to do with the mother. This is quite a common practice in "upper class" European families (or formerly upper class families : names pass on to the children untouched, while money tends to dwindle with time!)

Article Name

What is this fellow's name? A search on Google turns up this spelling repeatedly:

Sully-Prudhomme, René François Armand

Which suggests to me that his mother's name was Sully and father's name was Prudhomme. His given names are then René François Armand. Is that right? If so, then the article should not hyphenate his given names, but should hyphenate his sirname of Sully-Prudhomme.

The only reason I didn't change it is the Google search is the extent of my knowledge on the subject. Ke4roh 03:01, 15 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Available works

Ive tried lately to find some works (either books or online) from him in any other language then french but failed in my searching. Has anybody have any idea if this is possible?

To both the above

The second external link includes:

"Today Sully-Prudhomme is also relatively little read either in France or abroad."

"At the age of two Sully-Prudhomme lost his father, and he grew up in his uncle's house, where mother moved. His father was called 'Sully' and the poet joined it with his surname Prudhomme."
