Cubix: Robots for Everyone (Korean Hangul: 큐빅스 [1]) is a South Korean CGI animated series created by Cinepix.
Cubix takes place in the year 2040 in Bubble Town where robots outnumber humans. Robots are made in RobixCorp. Everyone has a robot, each with its own unique duty. This show centers on the Botties, a special club for people who know how to fix robots, along with the evil Dr. K., who has evil plans up his sleeve. Cubix was created by Korean company called Cinepix and licensed through 4Kids Entertainment for the English Dub for North America, and aired for two seasons on a kids block, Kids' WB!, lasting from August 11, 2001 to April 26, 2003, and getting a second run on FOX in 2004, but now it is available for viewing on its website.
The show has been the theme of three video games: Showdown, Clash 'n' Bash, and Race 'n' Robots.
Characters
Cubix
Cubix is a robot who is made out of a number of cubes. He can transform into a hover bike, an airplane, a helicopter or just a simple wall. In later episodes it turns out that he can fly without the need to transform into a vehicle that can fly. Hidden in each cube there is different gadget like a fire extinguisher, an extra arm, a laser cannon, an energy shield etc. which allows Cubix to have solution to almost every dire situation.
When it comes to fighting, Cubix is exceptionally strong. He is powered by a Solex generator which is rumored to be the ultimate power source, but nobody knows how it works exactly. Cubix' body is also constructed out of an exceptionally resistant metal that is capable of withstanding a lot of damage without breaking.
He can also transform into a better version of himself.
Cubix is a friendly and helpful robot to his friends, however, at the start of the series he is broken and no one can get him to work but Connor brings him to life and from then on can fix him again just by saying "I love you" and "friend" in the English dub as seen on the 4kids website., he lacks some advanced intelligence and especially speech capability, while speaking seem to be a thing that almost every other robot is capable of, usually he can just repeat what people around him say or form a few coherent words, however later this improves greatly and he becomes capable of forming sentences and dialogues.
Humans
Botties
Connor: The main human character of the series, 13-year-old Connor is obsessed with robots. He moved to Bubble Town, and soon after joined the Botties' Pit and fixed the "unfixable" robot, Cubix.
Abby: Connor's next-door neighbor, best human friend, and fellow robot-lover, Abby was the first to show Connor around Bubble Town. She is a member of the Botties. Her pet robot, Dondon, has been her best robot friend since Abby was 6 years old. Abby's idol is Hela Nemo. Abby was voiced by Veronica Taylor.
Chip: The short and smart Bottie, Chip knows a lot about robots. He's best friends with tall, dumb Mong, and his robot is Cerebrix.
Mong: The fat, tall, picky but kind Bottie, Mong loves to eat and make bad jokes. He's best friends with short, smart Chip, and his pet robot is Maximix.
Hela Nemo: The adult Bottie, 30-year-old Hela knows everything about robots. She's the daughter of Professor Nemo and the idol of Abby. She owns the Botties Pit, and her main robots are Diagnostix, Mr. Fixit, Ixpressive, and Attractix.
Villains
Dr. K: The main villain of the series, Dr. K used to work for RobixCorp, but he lost his arm in a lab explosion and now as a rogue robot inventor he uses his smarts for evil. In Season 1 he's after a substance called Solex to build the ultimate robot and destroy Bubble Town. His main robot is Kolossal, but he has his own line of evil robots such as Katastrophe, Kannon, Krab, Klawber, and Kilobot.
Raska: Bubble Town's most famous celebrity, Raska is the spokesperson of RobixCorp. She doesn't really have any robots besides the Cinematixes that film her. However, Raska's true form is an alien being of unknown origin who was Dr. K's boss. She only appears in the first season and was defeated.
Miscellaneous
Graham: Connor's dad, who works at a local donut shop. He doesn't like robots, and the closest things to his own robot are Cubix and the Waitrixes that work at the donut shop.
Taryn: Connor's mother, she died before the series started. Connor keeps a picture of her in his room as a memory.
Professor Nemo: The ultimate robotist, Professor Nemo is a robot encyclopedia. He was the one who built Cubix. Nemo disappeared in the aforementioned lab explosion, but was later found kidnapped by Dr. K. A giant sculpture of Nemo was always kept on the first floor of RobixCorp. He designed all of his robots with a yellow spiral.
Charles: A spoiled brat, the richest kid in town, and the son of the mayor. Charles' family has important connections in Bubble Town, so he gets all the latest robot models. His main robot, Quixtreme 5000, Charles thinks he's the coolest robot ever.He acts like he has control over everthing in Bubbletown which he doesn't for now.
Robots
Botties Robots
(other than Cubix)
Maximix: Maximix is Mong's blue green colored robot. Maximix is has a unicycle propulsion instead of legs and is also capable to transform into a Go-kart like vechicle to provide Mong with transportation. Although not as strong as Cubix or Kolossal, Maximix has proven himself to be a formidable opponent on several occasions. He can hold his own against a fight with Kolossal or any of Dr. K's robots albeit for only a limited time. His power source can dump all its energy at once at such occasions however at such high energy usage it quickly wears out. Thanks to his unicycle propulsion he can reach high speeds in moments even outdoing Cubix in his human form, he is quite agile on his wheels and can resist a good deal of damage. Once he was capable of rolling on Kolossal's harpoon arm cable without problems. His intelligence is average and his quick thinking can be very helpful. His personality is similar to his master: hot headed, competitive and a bit conceited but he can always be relied on. Maximix's voice is similar to that of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
DonDon: Dondon is Abby's bee-like robot. Dondon is a personal interaction and entertainment robot that is outfitted with hovering capabilities. He can only hover and fly for indefinite periods of time so, although he has wings, they are more for decoration than any practical use. Being a small and relatively weak robot, Dondon is not a fighter, although he has shown some fighting ability. His functions include video telephony and a more complicated personality program.
Cerebrix: Cerebrix is Chip's robot. Like his master Cerebrix is more of a brain focused character, he is bipedal, but has no arms. He is equipped with advanced memory, sensory, computing and processing systems stored in his "large head". He can also fly in the means of a retractable propeller that is on the top of his head. His main functions include a huge sensory array and he is also equipped with two antennae through which he can tap into almost any communication wavelength and cause disturbances and creating confusion in his foes. Also his advanced probability computing system is capable of determining the outcomes of events before the occur and the time before they occur, usually this is shown as warning before a bomb should explode or something bad about to happen. His personality and speech is also a lot more machine like than most other robots as he rarely says anything but usually when does it is very important.
Villain's Robots
Kolossal: A Frankenstein's monster esque robot, Kolossal is the brute of Dr. K's forces. Not too intelligent and continuessly relies on his master for orders but actually almost equal to Cubix in fighting ability, Kolossal serves as Cubix's nemesis in the early part of the show. Kolossal's equipped with various equipments most importantly a detachable floating platform on his left shoulder where Dr. K. takes seat. Kolossal is big strong, durable and although bulky he is capable of limited flight and agile high jumps, his left hand is a sort of claw like and he can also launch it on a wire to grab things from afar, his right shoulder includes a built missile launcher, his right forearm houses a bomb dispenser and other gadgets but most of the time he uses only brute force to win. Without his master's continuous coordination however he can only complete basic tasks.
Kilobot: First appearing on the second season, Kilobot is Vampiric and far smarter than any of his cohorts, Kilobot is Dr. K's finest creation. Developed to absorb data from other robots, Kilobot's name comes from the fact that he has the potential to copy the powers of up to 1000 other robots. As such, his power is potentially unlimited. Kilobot originally appeared in a bat-like form, but later upgraded to a bulkier body. Kilobot is Cubix's new arch-enemy. At the finale, he took control of Dr.K's robots and planned an ultimate takeover. However, he was permanently deactivated by his own Zombot.
Kontraption: Dr. K's largest automaton, Kontraption serves as his blimp headquarters after his original base is destroyed. However, Kontraption can also turn into a large robot with great destructive capability.
Krab: Squat and crustecean-like, Krab has powerful claws and shoulders that contain a variety of weapons.
Katastrophe: A robot capable of splitting into two halves. Katastrophe's top half can fly, while the bottom rolls around on a wheel.
Kannon: An artillery robot developed by Dr. K, his body is an assembly of cannons.
Klawber: Menace of the skies, Klawber is a super-fast plane that flies through the air.
Zombots: Dr. K's army of duplicating machines. When defeated, their parts can regenerate into new Zombots. In addition, they can evolve into larger, stronger versions of themselves.
Solex
Solex is a source of energy of unknown origin and unknown makeup. It has two forms: the first form is the liquid form which physically appears as a teal colored gloving liquid substance and the second form is the more stable crystallized form which is not shown. It is not known how this power source works but the story suggests that it has a psychic nature as it reacts to sentient thoughts, emotions and stress. Solex in both liquid and crystallized form is capable of producing immerse power of unknown levels and unknown time duration. However, in liquid form, this is very hard to control and the energy could randomly fluctuate rapidly from incredible levels to next to nothing. The crystallized form is stable enough so it can be utilized for controlled energy production and as a power source for robots or machinery. Cubix was the only known robot who was outfitted with such a power source which is an explanation to the origin of his great power.
Solex in the 1st series
In the first season of the series, Dr. K is collecting Solex and utilizes its power to complete his ultimate plans with the aid of the Alien, who is using the alter ego of Raska. It is suspected that the Solex was originally discovered/invented by professor Nemo. Nemo, fearing that Dr. K will attempt to misuse this power, separated the Solex to small doses and placed them in completely random robots to prevent Dr. K from finding it.
The liquid Solex, however, produces unexpected effects in robots; this is referred to as Solex infection. As the robot’s Emotion Processor was put under heavy stress or emotions, the uncontrollable energy reaction of the liquid Solex causes them to malfunction and go berserk. Besides the behavioral malfunction, the infected robot also gains extreme power far beyond its normal capabilities. This includes enhanced strength and unnatural functions like shooting fire from a cannon that is normally a fire extinguisher. However, this extreme power could overload the host and could end up in the host’s destruction unless it gets deactivated or the Solex energy returns to normal by itself.
At the end of the first season, the Solex dissipates and its last fragments travel back to Cubix to revive him. Cubix, after reactivation, claims that “the Solex is no more”. Cubix supposedly absorbed all of the last remnants of Solex into himself to come back to life. Although he is still one of the strongest robots, without the Solex, his power had drastically reduced.
