New Jersey Route 70 is a state highway in New Jersey. It extends from an intersection with Route 38 in Pennsauken to an intersection with Route 34 and Route 35 in Wall Township. Route 70 cuts across the mid-section of the state and is an alternative to Interstate 195, as most of it is a two lane highway through the Pine Barrens. The western section in Cherry Hill is a four to six-lane highway that serves as a major thoroughfare through the area; as such, it is routinely congested during rush hours.
History
Until the 1953 renumbering, Route 70 was Route 40; it was renumbered because of the existence of U.S. Route 40. From the Rt 206 Circle until its Eastern Terminus, Route 70 is known as John Davison Rockefeller Memorial Highway
