Hello and welcome to Modest Genius' user page. Please use my talk page for any comments you wish to leave me. Feel free to correct typos, dodgy links etc. on this page, but please do not substantially change its content.

Biographical details

My real name is Keith Smith, and I live in the UK. I was born on 4 May 1984, which makes me 24 years old (until I forget to update this page!). I am currently a student at the University of Nottingham, where I am in my third year of a PhD in astrochemistry. I live in the Beeston area of Nottingham, spending holidays at my parents' in Benfleet, Essex.

Hobbies and interests

In addition to physics, I have always been interested in history, particularly English history from the Heptarchy onwards, and European history between the middle ages and napoleonic wars. I'm also interested in politics, and am a keen reader of newspapers and other news sources. I tend to read The Guardian, although usually I prefer to save money and read it online.

Unusually for a Brit, I play ice hockey for the Nottingham Mavericks, where I am third team captain. I'm otherwise not a particularly sporty person, and my other interests reflect this. I am a fairly competent computer user and programmer although the only real use of this is fixing my friends' and family's computers.

Wikipedia interests

Wikipedia is usually my 'point of first search' on the internet, and has been since autumn 2005. As such, I tend to edit any mistakes I come across in the course of my searches. The articles I create are fewer and further between, and usually relate to my hobbies and interests. I occasionally browse Random Articles, mostly as a way of coming across new knowledge but often resulting in edits, stub tags or categorisation.

Licencing

In general, I am extremely averse to anyone using any of my work for commercial gain. I'm not at all a fan of the GFDL allowing this, although if I want to contribute here I don't have much choice. However, I am a great fan of releasing content to others to use, so long as they don't make money from my time and effort. Similarly, I don't like anyone claiming someone else's work as their own, and try not to do so myself.

In order to allow others to make use of content they created, and to reduce the problems created with multiple licences, I hereby release any edit I mark as 'minor' into the public domain.

All other edits I make are released under the GFDL, as per Wikipedia policy. I also agree to release any and all edits not marked as minor under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 England & Wales License.
