"Day 'n' Nite"
Song

"Day 'n' Nite" is the debut single by Hip hop artist Kid Cudi. It was produced by Dot Da Genius and released February 2008 on the A Kid Named Cudi mixtape but was leaked in December 2007 and was featured by many blogs in mid November 2008. It is credited to being featured on the video game Midnight Club: Los Angeles and NBA Live 2009 and the 64th episode of the HBO's series Entourage, both during the fall season.

The song has so far sold over one million downloads in the United States.[1]

Release

The single was released February 5, 2008 as a digital download via iTunes. It was released prior Kid Cudi's signing to the GOOD Music label. Since then the song's popularity grew, drawing speculation that it may be released on his upcoming debut album, Man on the Moon: The Guardians. The song is based on symptoms of bipolar disorder and drug issues in the ghettos of Cleveland. There are currently eight remixes made for the song, one by Pitbull, another by Jim Jones, a third house remix by Crookers, a fourth by Collie Buddz, a fifth by Twin Cities unsigned artist Young Son, a sixth by Jermaine Dupri a seventh by Trey Songz and an eighth by Styles P.

In Europe, the remix by the Italian DJ duo Crookers, is much more popular than the original. For example, it was song of the week on Belgian radio station Studio Brussel.[2] A video was released for this version of the song that Cudi expressed displeasure with and it was released without his permission. He issued an explanation on his blog and asked that all bloggers remove the video from their blogs.[3] The song's released on 12 January in UK as both download and physical. The Crookers remix debuted at number 2 in the UK singles chart, being beaten off the top spot by Lady Gaga's "Just Dance" having retained its position for 3 weeks. The Crookers remix is often played during his concerts, as a continuation of the original version. The remix won an award at the Beatport Music Awards of 2009 for 2008 tracks under the category Best Indie Dance / Nu Disco track of 2008.[4]

The original version has currently peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S., and in Canada it reached #29 on the Canadian Hot 100.

Music video

There were two music videos made for Day 'n' Nite. The first being a pop art style video. It was directed by the French director So-Me who worked on Justice's "D.A.N.C.E.", "DVNO" and the documentary A Cross The Universe and on the Kanye West song "Good Life" . This video was produced by Imetrages. The second version was made specifically for The Crookers remix of the song. It showcases Cudi as an employee at a typical British corner shop, seen with several girls dancing then caressing him.
