List of oldest living people by country

In supplement to the National longevity recordholders page, this page is for the oldest people alive in a certain country. As comprehensive birth registration largely came into being in the 20th century and no one born in that century has yet reached supercentenarian age, records are necessarily fragmentary. The earliest comprehensive recordkeeping systems arose in Europe, the only place that any persons born in the 18th century can be documented above the level of longevity myths. For example, the United Kingdom organized a central recordkeeping system for England and Wales in 1837 which was compulsory by 1874.

This article gives the recordholders for various countries to the extent that they have been established. Each country covered has produced at least one person who reached the age of 110 or more. Most recordholders are female with male recordholders being noted. Those born in one country who moved to another are identified. Countries are listed in order of the age of the present recordholder.

This article uses links to those who have biographies and boldfaces the names of those who do not. It should not be assumed that every person mentioned in an article therefore merits his or her own article.

United States of America

Elizabeth Bolden is the oldest living American, born Aug 15 1890. She also holds the worldwide oldest living record.

Moses Hardy was born Jan 6 1893, making him the oldest living male American resident.

Canada

Julie Winnefred Bertrand is the oldest living Canadian. born Sept 16 1891.

Italy

The oldest living resident of Italy is Virginia Dighero-Zolezzi, born Dec 24 1891.

France

Camille Loiseau is the doyenne de France, born Feb 13 1892.

Maurice Floquet is the oldest living Frenchman. born Dec 25 1894.

United Kingdom

Indian-born Lucy D'Abreu (born May 24, 1892) is the oldest living person in the UK. Edith "Judy" Ingamells is the oldest living native British, born Jan 12 1894.

Henry Allingham is Britain's oldest living man, born June 6 1896.

Japan

Yone Minagawa is the oldest living person in Japan, born Jan 4 1893.

Nijiro Tokuda (born June 10, 1895) is the oldest living man in Japan.

Portugal

Maria de Jesus is the oldest living Portugese at 112 years 53 days (born September 10,1893).

Finland

Hilda Hakkinen is the oldest resident of Finland at 111 years and 229 days (born March 18,1894).

Australia

Myra Nicholson holds the living record at 110 years and 323 days (born December 14,1894).

John Campbell Ross holds the living male record at 106 years and 130 days (born March 11, 1899).

Netherlands

Alexandrina van Donkelaar-Vink (born January 31, 1895) is the oldest living Dutch at 110 years, 275 days.

Germany

German-born Catherine Trompter whose nationality switched to France when Alsace was returned, holds the record at 110 years and 219 days. (born March 28, 1895). Irmgard von Stephani (born September 20, 1895) holds the record for the oldest living native German at 110 years and 43 days.

Robert Meier (born March 10, 1897) holds the male record at 108 years and 131 days.

Sweden

Astrid Zachrison (May 15, 1895) at 110 years and 171 days.

Spain

Carmen Romero-Rodriguez (born August 27, 1895) is the oldest living Spaniard.

Switzerland

Anna Ringier-Kieser (born April 12, 1896) at 109 years (in April 2005).
