Family Guy

The Cleveland Show is an upcoming American animated series created by Seth MacFarlane as a spin-off from Family Guy, also created by Seth MacFarlane.

Background

The Cleveland Show is the working title[2] for an animated series focusing on the character of Cleveland Brown and his family as he moves from Rhode Island to Virginia.[3]

Cleveland has kind of had enough in Quahog—he kind of realizes that he wants his own friends, his own sidekicks, his own stories. So he sets out to California to make it in a way that we'll have to keep a secret until the show starts, and then he ends up somewhere else, which we'll also keep a secret until the show starts. But he basically goes home—he goes to his hometown of Virginia and rekindles an old high school flame.

In the closing scene episode of Family Guy, "Baby Not On Board", Cleveland breaks the fourth wall by mentioning to Quagmire that he is getting a spin-off.[5]

The show, which was picked up to air a first season consisting of 22 episodes,[6] was picked up by FOX for a second season, consisting of 13 episodes, bringing the total number to 35 episodes. The announcement was on May 3, 2009 before the first season even premiered.[1]

The show will air in the UK on Channel 4's, E4 despite similar show's Family Guy and American Dad! airing on FX UK and BBC Three.

Characters

Family

His newly introduced family includes his new wife, Donna (Sanaa Lathan[7]), her daughter in her late-teens, Roberta (Reagan Gomez-Preston[7]) and her five year-old son, Rallo (Mike Henry).[8][9] Cleveland Jr. also appears in the show, but is older and more obese than in his previous appearances on Family Guy.[10]. He is now voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson[9]

Neighbors

Cleveland's neighbors also include a family of talking anthropomorphic bears (the husband, Tim, is to be voiced by MacFarlane[9] while the wife, Arianna, is to be voiced by Arianna Huffington[9][11]), a "hipster" wannabe named Holt (to be voiced by Jason Sudeikis[9][11]), a redneck couple (with the husband Lester to be voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson[7]) and an English family,[3] with the husband to be voiced by Seth MacFarlane.

Guests

There will also be an episode in 2010 which features rapper Kanye West playing a character named Kenny West.[12] The producers stated working with West was a very good experience and a reason they chose him was because they knew he was a fan of Family Guy.[12]

Debut

Cleveland will officially leave Family Guy, but it has been hinted that he might return for visits occasionally.[13] The show is scheduled to debut in Fall 2009.[9] The cancellation of the short lived series Sit Down, Shut Up[14] and the renewal of American Dad! leaves The Simpsons and King of the Hill as the only two non-Seth MacFarlane series in FOX's animation Sunday night lineup.
