Controversy

In May 2002, 12 students super-glued stolen beehives within the school and also glued a large number of classroom and building doors shut. The school prank resulted in the release of a swarm of 80,000 bees. The students were suspended and later sentenced to perform community service. This prank was also the first to air on MTV's show "High School Stories: Scandals, Pranks & Controversies" receiving an hour long special.[2][3]

The baseball team is also home to Michael Main, who was once featured in Sports Illustrated and drafted by the Texas Rangers in the first round of the 2007 MLB draft.[4]

The girl's golf team had an 30-0 regular season (including no postseason wins) in 2007. Their last defeat came at the district tournament from Lake Mary High School by 70 strokes. Senior Courtney Finocchiaro led the team with a low nine hole score of 35 at Grand Haven and a low eighteen hole score of 79. Freshman Karen Hutton was right behind with an 80 at districts.

Playing a much stronger schedule, the boys team finished respectably but failed to qualify as a team for districts. Sophomore Billy Anderson fired a 74 at conference for the best eighteen hole score, qualified for districts and then lost in a sudden-death playoff to miss regionals by a single stroke. The boys team's scores were consistently about 25 strokes better than the girls in nine hole tournaments. They also play from the man tees, playing nearly 1000 yards longer than the girls' tees at Southridge Golf Course.
