Marcus Haber (born January 11, 1989) is a Canadian-Austrian football (soccer) player. He plays as a striker for the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Early life

He studied at Lord Byng Secondary and Lord Kitchener Elementary School.

Career

Haber first started playing soccer with the Dunbar Soccer Association at the age of five. In early 2006, he helped lead his local team the Vancouver Selects to a national championship.[1] He has played the for the Whitecaps FC Prospects and spent 2 seasons playing striker for the U-19 team of FC Groningen of the Dutch Eredivisie[2].

He joined English League One Club Leeds United[3] on a trial basis, participating in their pre-season tour to Ireland at the start of the 2008-09 season.[4] He made his debut in the 62nd minute of the Whites friendly against Galway United He made his first start for Leeds in a friendly against Bray Wanderers where he also scored his first goal for the club in the 68th minute.[5] However, Leeds did not offer him a contract after his last game against Barnet F.C.[6] But the player was offered a trial with Hartlepool United FC where he played one match for the club vs York City F.C.[7], in addition SFL's Hearts F.C. in Scotland have shown an interest.[8]

On 9 September Kent Messenger reported that he was on trial with Gillingham of England's League Two (the fourth level of English professional football) [9] On 11 February 2009 Haber joined the Vancouver Whitecaps and signed a 1 year contract with an option, between the end of the season 2009. [10].

He is currently a member of Canada’s squad that is aiming to qualify for this year's FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt[14].

Personal Life

Marcus is the oldest child of David and Carla Haber and grew up in the Dunbar neighbourhood of in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he was born. He became proficient at soccer as well as baseball and basketball.
