i disagree with the comment below. This band has described their own sound during an interview with a rocket to the moon, where they've been asked. Describe your music " ... just a Pop rock, mainstream band i guess..". Don't classify bands like this Emo, never make that mistake. I work as a web/promotion designer, also Myspace Layout manager. I still live in Gilbert, Arizona and i've known bands coming from my hometown, they've never been the bands you could label 'Emo'. I don't know if you're one of the kind, but did you put Emo, because of some of the members hairstyle or because they're a new band ?... people, especially the media, makes money from appearances of a band, but not the music they play. The Maine plays Pop Rock and Pop Punk music not Emo. I have proof if you want, that they themselves manage their Buzznet, and the genres listed doesn't include 'Emo' |

Since when did The Maine go 'Emo', don't do this to the band?

look on the right side, the drummer and guitarist Jared manages it with Tim, and they decided to put on Pop Punk/Pop/Alternative. this is their real sound, and if anyone thinks it's good to change to Emo just, because they are a new band in the scene, that person really must watch out. I'm sorry to say this, but people The Maine fans would never ever view them as Emo, and surely not want to buy the messed up classified genre 'Emo' for The Maine. Please reply, tell me why you really think they're Emo, just cause of Allmusic, let me tell you something, Kerrang the biggest selling magazine in the world for such music, stated that they're a Rock band, which is true, more newer rock.
Can i ask you something, not to be rude, don't take this personal. Are you even 18 years old ? are you 14-15 year old fan girl who thinks it's right to put on a false genre for a band, which could make them upset, they could think " man, do people really look at us as an Emo band", because you're probably the only one who changes it to Emo. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.132.231.153 (talk) 19:18, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Who is more reliable, The band saying their sound personally, or some media suck up money guide, which doesn't come from the bands own words.... think again, bands know what their sound is they play it, and if they say they're not Emo, but Pop Rock, then they aren't. End of story.! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.132.231.153 (talk) 19:21, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
This band is not Emo, do you even know anything about the music history and genres , whoever edited that?? !!!
Even on THEIR own personal Buzznet profile, they put on Alternative, believe it or not. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.132.231.153 (talk) 10:45, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
As you should all know, before releasing can't stop won't stop, this band had indie pop influence in the beginning, their guitar chords, and the usage of capo on an 'electric guitar', that is because Ryan and Alex originally wrote the songs on guitar for The Way We Talk, that is why it sounds more different than CSWS, the latest record. Emo is never a word to describe The Maine, Emo is a genre which is dead already, it does not mean emotional, if it does mean that, y isn't every artist labeled emo on this planet, every song needs emotions. Nobody plays it anymore, Emo genre stands for Emotive Hardcore, which is fast punk, with screaming, and crying on stage, it is not present anymore, The Maine is far from that. Their biggest influence is indeed Third Eye Blind, and of course Ivory, and if you know The Maine very well, you should know that from their Q and A's from Youtube, or interviews. they are up-beat Pop Rock, with an Alternative twist, and a bit of Pop Punk i admit. Everything I Ask For as an example. It has a tempo beat in the beginning, and the singer is influenced from a lot of Hip Hop music, he doesn't sound like an 'Emo' singer, he sings to the beat of the drums in that song, for example,'she's wearin red and she's feelin Hot !', that is why he decided that the band covers Akon. Another example of The Maine not being that genre is the song We'll All Be, it has a very typical southwest American, guitar intro to it.
Yes, i agree though, they are more on the Pop Punk side, way more, than that 'Emo' genre that was put in. Just put Emo away please, it would make them happy, in case they visit this page.
FYI:
Emo bands are: Rites of spring, Minor Threat, Early Dashboard Confessional material, Jawbreaker, Fugazi. Believe me editor of The Maine, if you truly like music, and love this band, don't mistaken them with a genre completely different, something that's hardcore. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.132.231.153 (talk) 22:06, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, Allmusic includes "Emo" in the genres they specify for the band. Allmusic is a reliable source (see WP:RS), and that's pretty much the end of it. An encyclopedia, such as Wikipedia, relies on such sources for content; this is not the place for evaluations such as yours, which count as original research. Now please familiarize yourself with our guidelines, and take heed of the advice of other editors. (BTW, one of our guidelines is WP:CIVIL. Suggesting that other editors know nothing about history and genres is rude as well as probably incorrect.) Thank you. Drmies (talk) 15:30, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
huh?
Not sure why there was an attempt to remove this from the Alternative rock WikiProject, punk falls into it's perview. That's a picture of Sonic Youth in the template, by the way, so if it was because of fear of being mislabeled, I wouldn't worry about it. Beeblbrox (talk) 17:59, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- They may have even appeared on the cover of Alternative Press, though I can't remember for sure. I know that magazine has covered them more than once. Chubbles (talk) 18:25, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, punk doesn't fall under the WikiProject's scope. WesleyDodds (talk) 03:36, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
Akon cover
The part about the Akon cover is incorrect.
The song was already recorded for their EP that was released on Fearless Records. Deadxsouls (talk) 02:51, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Written in pink?
Why is this article written in pink? I've never seen an article like this before, it's really obnoxious.. --24.1.205.187 (talk) 23:47, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
Whoever put this:
"The band's name is from when they all went on a trip and saw a road called Maine ave and they thought it sounded good so the called themselfes the maine".
you are WRONG!.
What was originally put on their was correct. If you don't believe me, it's on here : "http://the-maine.com/?page_id=20" —Preceding unsigned comment added by StocktonTheMaine (talk • contribs) 21:28, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
INDIE?? really???
So I was briefly scanning this article after I ran into this band on Youtube, and I was wondering: What exactly qualifies this band as "Indie Rock"? Seriously. There is nothing at all indie about this band; their sound and lyrics are COMPLETELY mainstream pop-punk, and they are signed to a Warner Music Group label. So they do not have an independent sound or label, why are they listed as "indie" on wikipedia? 128.120.172.77 (talk) 08:15, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
