Trinitario is a violent New York-based multinational street gang composed of Hispanics.[1] Trinitario was founded in 1987 within the New York state prison system[2] by a man known as El Caballon, and since spilled into the streets, with chapters in all five boroughs of New York City. Reports of Trinitario activity have also been made in New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Alaska,[1] and even Spain. It is considered the fastest-growing gang in New York, recruiting members from middle schools and high schools local to the gang's area of activity, with the highest numbers of reports coming from Chelsea, Gramercy Park, Harlem, the Morris Heights section of The Bronx and from Washington Heights[3]. Their slogan is "Dios, Patria, y Libertad".

History

Trinitario is a Hispanic gang formed in prison, providing protection and unity for Hispanics within the New York City Department of Corrections. The Gang was formed because the Latin Kings and Ñetas, two rivaling and primarily Puerto Rican gangs, were, at the time, the dominant forces in the prison system.[2] The name "Trinitario", means the trinity brotherhood in English. The three founding fathers are; Juan Pablo Duarte, Ramón Matías Mella, and Francisco Del Rosario Sánchez. The Trinitarios view themselves as being, like their founding fathers, freedom fighters and protectors for Hispanic people, though in this case within the New York City Department of Corrections. It was originally composed of members of smaller, now-defunct Hispanic gangs such as Los Papi Chulos, Dominican Power and Dominican Posse, as well as unaffiliated drug dealers, and members of their current rival gang, Dominicans Don't Play. Many members remained affiliated with the gang after serving their sentences, and began recruiting in their neighborhoods, the path many prison gangs take as they become street gangs.

Identification

They are known for their call of "Patria." [3] The Trinitarios primarily use green bandanas along with beaded necklaces with the colors blue, white, red, and green as identifiers. However, due to law enforcement's increasing awareness of the gang, they may not be wearing either as an identifier. Other clothing commonly used by Trinitarios include green shoe laces and/or green Nike shoes, and any article of clothing containing green. They are known for their extreme violence,[4] as well as the use of guns, machetes and knives [5]. 3Ni Trini DPL: Dios, Patria, Libertad OT (Original Trinitario)

Chapters

a chapter is a equivalent to what crips and bloods would call sets and what kings would call tribes which is a smaller group or class of the gang placed in a area to control that particular neighborhood . one of the main and biggest chapters of the trinitarios are located in a section of upper Manhattan called dyckman. This area majority ethnic group are Dominican immigrants or youths of Dominican decent. since the 1990s this area two biggest gangs were the 8 Trey Gangster Crips and the Dyckman City Kings. eventually time passed and in 2005 a unknown male OG/OT Trintario had migrated from the Dominican republic and started a chapter of Trinitario in dyckman known as dyckman city trini. its numbers grew larger and larger withdrawing the attention of the neighboring Latin King competitors. eventually attracting members from Latin Kings forming the set or Chapter known as Dyckman Trini. also not to far south from this area of dyckman there is Washington heights which today is known to be the home of the biggest chapter in Trinitario. the chapter is known as O.E.D One Eight Deuce 182st the name was chosen to show pride in the neighborhood street they live on and most of its members today are ex Latin Kings from so called West Side Tribes. the biggest reason why the latin kings have dropped there loyal gangs is because they feel latin kings is a gang made for people of puerto rican decent. so they drop and turn to there dominican gang of trinitario. other chapters of trinitario include (Bad Boy City 3ni),(M.O.B Money On Broadway),and (Clinton City 3ni).
