00:00, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC) This article does not seem to need much more explanation; metaplot is a pretty simple concept. Metaplot is not limited to White Wolf games, all systems that have over-arching stories are considered to have metaplot. The Dungeons and Dragons game setting Forgotten Realms (by Ed Greenwood, et al) is an example of a system with metaplot, as is the setting-advances used in BattleTech's transiton from Third Edition (by FASA) to Classic BattleTech Fourth Edition (by Fantasy Productions/WizKids). GURPS does not have metaplot, because there is not an over-arching storyline to it, and therefore metaplot advances are not needed.

I feel this article would be improved if there was a section on the negative aspects of metaplots too, as to answer the question "why doesn't all rpgs have 'em?".

I'll start: Metaplots may make earlier released material obsolete and/or incompatible (storywise). If players get later modules, that might spoil things. This limits the market. ...

Okay, so this article is not up to standards right now. It lacks references. It effectively claims "metaplot is only for rpgs" which is even dodgier than if the article just happened to bring up rpg examples only (compare a U.S.-centric article; those usually don't say outright "this happens only in the U.S." 213.66.219.48 (talk) 08:36, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
