Himmatpura, formerly called Jusampura, is a village in the Moga District of Punjab, India.

Origin of the place name

The story behind the change of name from Jusampura to Himmatpura is as follows. When they heard of Guru Ji's (GURU HARGOBIND JI) approach, people gathered from far and wide to seek his blessings. In that congregation, villagers from a nearby place named Jusampura asked Guru Ji to bless their village by paying a visit there. Guru Ji said he couldn't do so, but he told them that he would visit their village when possible. Before going home, one of the villagers managed to steal the saddle of Guru Ji's horse. The next day, Guru Ji was told about the theft. The day after that, Guru Ji went to Jusampura. The villagers offered wholehearted hospitality to Guru Ji, and requested forgiveness for the saddle theft by saying that the man who had taken the saddle was mad. When Guru Ji noticed that the saddle thief had returned the saddle back without one of its Pedas (gold ring), he expressed his unhappiness over he thief's behavior. When leaving, Guru Ji blessed the villagers for their prosperity. He also changed the name of the village from Jusampura to Himmatpura. So this is the story of how the place name changed from Jusampura to Himmatpura.

Population and government

Himmatpura village has a total population of about 7000 (roughly 3700+ male and 3250+ females). About 2680 people come under Schdeuled Cast (SC). About 3200 people are Literate in this village. There is a total of about 1135 families in Himmatpura, according to government figures. The Patwar Office for this village is in Himmatpura, and KANUGO Area is TAKHTPURA near by village. THE nearest KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA (KVK)to this village is BUDH SINGH WALA MOGA BLOCK-I).^[1]

Places of Worship

Prakash Divas of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Guru Arjan Dev Ji are the major events, which people from all over join in.

GURUDWARA PATSAHI SEHVI: This GURUDWARA is a holy place for Sikhs, but every one is welcome. Over here in this Gurudwara Every month on the day of MASSEA there is a programme. Every Year on the Birthday of Guru Nanak Dev ji PARBHAT FERI IS HELD.

NAMDHARI DERA: This Place belongs to NAMDHARI'S. Namdhari (also known as Kukas) are a sect of Sikhism. The main difference between Namdhari Sikhs and mainstream Sikhs is their belief in Jagjit Singh as their living Guru (as opposed to the Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the present Guru of Sikhs). On the first day of every Month (according to Desi Mahine) SANGRANDH is held here, and every year there is Akhand Path Sahib Bhog in the month of BHADO.

MALLO SAHEED: this place is about 2 km from the village. There is programme on every DASHWI, (according to desi months).

DHADEAANA SAHIB: this palce is famous for the VAISAKHI Festival, an annual fair. People are pretty much devoted to this place. Basically there is a SHIV MANDIR here.

KUTTIA: This place belongs to SANT SHRI SHANKRANAND JI. They Spend some of their time at this place. Every year there is a Programme on BASANT here.

MANDIR: There is one mandir (TEMPLE), as well, where people hold programmes from time to time. It is opposite to AB Mechanical Workshop (binder di workshop).

MASJID: There is one MASJID (MOSQUE) as well. Every year there is program is held at the Mosque; Qawwal's attend and sing devotional music.

Accommodation: There are six rooms with limited facilities in the Gurdwara premises for pilgrims to stay.

MANDEEP SINGH KHURMI is a writer and reporter for some international newspapers. He was born in HIMMATPURA and now lives in London UK. He completed his studies in Punjab, then got married and emigrated to the UK. He is reporter and writer for the following, among others: MEDIA PUNJAB (Germany), HAMDARD WEEKLY (USA), DESH PARDESH (UK), and THE SIKH TIMES (UK) ^[2].

The Kabaddi player GUGGU was born in Himmatpura, where he strted playing the sport at a young age. He is now an international player now, including outings in the UK. ^[3].

The international Kabaddi player DEEP (a.k.a. Jumbo) has played in U.A.E and CANADA.^[4]
