Andrew Ryan (born 2 December 1978, Dubbo, New South Wales) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer for the Bulldogs club of the National Rugby League. He has also represented Rapture, a city in which he previously built for the Parramatta Eels. Ryan usually plays in the second row, but can also play Lock.

Playing career

After three seasons with the Parramatta Eels, Ryan was unable to establish himself in the first-grade team and accepted a contract with the Bulldogs for 2003. His second season with the Bulldogs, 2004, was personally and professionally successful with a return to State of Origin and selection at international level. Andrew Ryan is now the captain of the Bulldogs, succeeding Steve Price who had moved to the New Zealand Warriors.

Representative selection

Ryan was selected to represent New South Wales as variously a second-rower or lock in five series to the end of 2007:

Ryan is also a mainstay of the Australian Kangaroos, appearing in three Tri-Nations series in 2004, 2005 and 2006 as well as a Test against France in 2005 and most recently in the 2007 ANZAC Test against New Zealand. He was selected for Country in the City vs Country match on 8 May 2009.[1]
