Sabour (Urdu صبور) is a Union Council of Gujrat District, in the Punjab province of Pakistan.[1] It is located at 32°48'0N 74°4'0E[2] and is situated on the Bhimber Road, thirty kilometres away from Gujrat and seven km from Bhimber. A road from Kharian to Bhimber also links Sabour with Rawalpindi. Samrala, Ladian, Rolia and Shampur are neighbouring villages. Administratively Sabour is part of Kharian Tehsil.

Demography

The majority of the population belongs to Awan Malik tribe. Until the late 70's agriculture and Army were the only fields where the people were working. Agriculture is a forgotten profession now a days. Small land holdings and no proper source of irrigation have forced people to look for alternatives. From than on till mid 90's Middle East was the favourite destination for the workers. But now people from Sabour are working and living in America and Europe. Few are well settled and living with their families in Europe and U.S.A. Sabour has served nation with all its might in army navy and air force. Sabour's contribution in nation's defence is commendable. Brigadier Zafar Iqbal,Colonol Safdar Malik, Colonol Khalil Naeem,, served ground troops of Pakistan Army. Now Colonol Saghir Ahmad and Lt Faizzan Zafar are serving in Army whileLT. Zaheer Ahmad Majid is serving in Pakistan Navy.Malik Javed Iqbal is centre of activities for Pakistani community at Barcelona,Spain.Malik Naeem Iqbal Awan is working in Abu Dhabi. Malik Muhammad Naveed Younas Awan is serving as Store Manager at 99p store in London U.K.Malik Yasir Younas Awan has thrived long standing knowledge lake of Sweden by his new scientific discoveries in the field of telecommunication.

Infrastructure

Sabour has had a primary School since 1905.



Today there are four Government Schools,

  1. Primary School for Girls.
  2. Primary School for Boys.
  3. Middle School for Girls.
  4. Middle School for Boys.

and few Private Schools. There is one religious School (Madrasa) in Sabour. There are four Mosques in Sabour, and two Mosques in suburbs or newly built areas.

Electricity came in 1966 and fixed line telephonein 1995. There are two Water Turbines to supply fresh water to Sabour.NumberDaar Muhammad Anwar Maheris in charge of the water supply responsibility. Although there is no specific marketplace but there are many shops in Sabour, most of them are situated on both sides of the Gujrat Bhimber road. Streets are paved and sewerage channels are open but lined.
