Natarang (Template:Lang-mr) is a forthcoming 2010 Indian Marathi movie directed by debutant Ravi Jadhav starring Atul Kulkarni, Sonalee, Kishor Kadam,Vibhavri Deshpande,Priya Berde.The film is scheduled for release on 1 January 2010.Veteran music composer duo Ajay Atul is scoring the music.

Synopsis

The film portrays the struggle of a creative mind that dares to think different. A young artist "Guna" (Atul Kulkarni) who decides to go beyond his family, his friends, the society and above all his own imagination to achieve a dream unthinkable. A story set in the 1970s in a small village of a Maharashtra in India, digs into the deep-rooted gender politics revealed through incidents in an artist’s life. Guna, a poor village labourer nurtures the obsession for Tamasha – a theatrical folk art form of Maharashtra. It is his dream to play king once in his life. Unforeseen circumstances land him in situation where he sets up a theatre company. But its survival now depends on inclusion of Nachya, (A man who performs a woman’s role in theatre) a mandatory in the Tamasha. Strongly built Guna takes up the challenge of doing the role due to his passion for the art. A decision that puts his life in turmoil inside out. He is deserted by his wife, teased for performing feminine roles, abused and declared a eunuch or gay by the society that fails to understand the creativity involved in the art form.

Inspiration

The story is adapted & based on the novel by Dr. Anand Yadav named as "Natarang ".

Director's Biography

Born in 1971 in Mumbai, Ravi Jadhav studied applied Art at Sir J. J. School of Art. He has worked with multinational advertising agency as a creative director. His advertising work have received numerous awards. Natarang is debut film as a director.

Music and Costumes

The music of the film is the most valuable asset of the film. Ace marathi Music Duo Ajay Atul hovered the magic wand on this film.The script & story of the film demands periodic compositions & traditional dance numbers as in Lavni & Tamasha.The music & songs are already popular amongst the peoples & also created massiv hits on internet & social networking sites. The authentic costumes, designed by Abhijit Thakur, are quite appreciated by the audience and critics.

Critical reception

Film has been screened in MAMI Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image film festival and selected in the ABOVE THE CUT category before its official release. Film got overwhelming responses throughout the audience.
