Chitkara University is a private university located at Barotiwala, Himachal Pradesh, India. The university curriculum focuses on undergraduate and postgraduate engineering and business management studies.

History

Chitkara University has been set up under Section 2 (f) of UGC Act 1956 by the Himachal Pradesh State Legislature under Himachal Pradesh Private Universities ( Establishment & Regulation ) Act 2006. The Act has been notified through Government of Himachal Pradesh Gazette Notification No. EDN-A-Gha (8)6/2006 dated April 29, 2008. Approved by the University Grants Commission under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, the University commenced academic activities from September 2008.

Location

The campus of the University is located within HIMUDA Education Hub at Kallujhanda near Barotiwala, District Solan, just on the outskirts of Chandigarh. The campus is 3 km off the National Highway 21A. It is 32 km from Chandigarh and 8 km from Kalka Railway Station.

Academic Programs

The programs offered by schools are as under:

Chitkara School of Engineering and Technology

Integrated Engineering Program after Class 10th

After Class X, students can take admission in three years Diploma program in Computer Science & Engineering or Electronics & Communication Engineering and thereafter shall be awarded a Diploma in the respective Engineering branch by Chitkara University. On successful completion of diploma program, the student will be transferred to 2nd year of Chitkara University's Engineering degree program in the respective branch. The student shall be awarded the respective engineering degree from Chitkara University after successfully completing 2nd, 3rd and 4th year.

Engineering Program after Class 12th

A student can opt for Bachelor of Engineering (BE) course in:

• Computer Science & Engineering (CSE)
• Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE)
• Civil Engineering (CE)

The duration of these programs is 4 years.

Integrated Programs in Engineering after Class 12th

A student can opt for :

• BE (Computer Science Engineering) and MBA
• BE (Electronics & Communication Engineering) and MBA
• (BE / ME) in Computer Science & Engineering
• (BE / ME) in Electronics & Communication Engineering

The duration of these programs is 5 years.

Engineering Program after Diploma

A student can opt for either 6 years Diploma and Integrated program or 3 year Diploma program. On successful completion of diploma program in Computer Science & Engineering or Electronics & Communication Engineering, a student can opt for three-year Engineering Program, in which, the student will be transferred to their respective Engineering branch.

Computer Applications Program

This includes a three-year Master of Computer Applications degree after completion of graduation.

The duration of this program is 3 years.

Chitkara Business School

Chitkara Business School (CBS) offers a two-year fully residential Master of Business Administration with marketing as specialization.

Chitkara School of Mass Communication

Chitkara School of Mass Communication offers a three-year Bachelor of Mass Communication course after completion of class 12th, and a two-year Master of Mass Communication course after completion of graduation in any discipline.
