"Bossy"
Song

"Bossy" is a song written by R&B singer-songwriter Ne-Yo and production-team Stargate for American pop singer Lindsay Lohan. The song became Lohan's first #1 hit on the Hot Dance Club Play chart.[1][2] This is confirmed a promo single, not the official first single and will not have a video.

Release

A clip of the song leaked on YouTube early in May 2008. Universal Motown released the full song in High quality to media outlets on May 7, 2008.[3] The song was uploaded on Lohan's official MySpace page.[4] The song was digitally released on May 27, 2008.[5][6][7]

Bossy which has been confirmed as a song from Lindsay Lohan's upcoming album which has been delayed since November 2008.

Critical reception

"Bossy" received mostly positive reviews. Billboard said "The track spotlights the raspy-voiced singer's dominating side as she rhymes about liking things her way over simple drums".[8]. Digital Spy said that " 'Bossy' isn't pop gold - the chorus lacks a bit of oomph and Lohan's vocals still aren't convincing - but it's the first Lohan tune we'd be prepared to listen to more than once. That, we suppose, is enough to constitute a small step forward".[9]

Song information

The single contains a dance-pop sound with influences of hip-hop and R&B.

Ne-Yo wrote the synth-heavy dance track with the actress in mind, he stated that[10]:

"I wrote it for her because when she's on her game, you can see these traits in her. When she's focused, she exudes the aura of a boss with ease," Ne-Yo explains. "When [producer] Stargate and I were approached with the task, we viewed it as a challenge. 'Can we make a song for Lindsay Lohan that people were gonna take seriously?' I think we did it."

In the song's chorus, Lohan unapologetically sings, "I'm just a little bossy. I like it how I like it when I like it and that's how it is."

Ne-Yo says the song is about strength. "It's basically about a woman being strong enough to get what she wants when she wants it," he tells: "In this case, 'Bossy' is a term that describes confidence and power."

Ne-Yo also stated: "I gotta admit, we were like ... Lindsay Lohan?'" Ne-Yo says with a laugh. "I mean, I've written for Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, Celine Dion and ... Lindsay Lohan? But I will say this; we gave her a quality record and she did a ridiculously fabulous job. I was so shocked I had to call her and apologize for what I was thinking because she did so good. I think the world is gonna be surprised."[11]
