The word Queen ultimately derives from an Indo-European root *gwena (woman) via Old English cwén (woman, wife, queen). Cf. Old Norse kvenna (woman), Gothic qens (wife), Greek gynē (woman), Russian zhena, Sanskrit jani. It has many meanings:
